Advantages: Easy way to get market quote and nice diagrams of window designs
Disadvantages: Isn't a local trader supposed to get back to us?
Folks,
Thought I might let you know about my experience with www.windowquoter.co.uk
We came into some finances to swap out about half the windows in our house. I'd read a comment from a fellow Dooyooer that www.windowquoter.co.uk was an easy way to get a quote.
Sure enough, with a bit of button pushing, they'll give you the estimated cost for low to high end companies using the window sizes and designs you input.
It was not obvious how to edit my options after initial design choices. This meant starting over several times. A further hiccup was that the site seemed to remember my last set of selections, giving me an inflated quote that included ALL windows from every time I'd run through the process. Only clearing my browser cache and restarting Internet Explorer seemed to work.
The final option is to submit your request for quotation to Windowquoter who will on your behalf search for reputable traders to take on the work. Not long after, I received a call from them asking for a few more details. From speaking their agent on the phone, the window companies can be bigger or smaller, but all are quality assured based on users' ratings.
All in all, if you can fill in a webform, this part of the process is not that difficult. But it kind of sputtered out afterward.
After initially receiving three calls from three different agents clearing up details about the windows (3 people calling...extra concern or incompetence?) I heard nothing. That's right nothing.
I called a week ago (about three weeks after my initial online request) to ask why no window company had called. They said because of the specifics of my windows (there was nothing odd about them I thought) it was taking a while to find a trader who could do it. Today...still nothing.
As these are window companies who under normal circumstances are forever calling, I can only assume none have been contacted on my behalf. Or none are interested in the job as it's not big enough.
In the meantime, I've called a local guy who did my back door and he's agreed to do the window job. Coincidently, Windowquoter's price was very very close to his. It's a shame that they couldn't follow through.
My advice. Use them for info, but they may need chasing up if you actually DO want them to find you a window installer.
Summary: Web site handy, but didn't deliver the goods.

- 17/10/07 Excellent for producing a page showing how you want your windows to open and style plus showing the height and width that you have measured and entered. You then print this of and fold it to hide the prices, i.e just shows style and dimensions. When you salesman calls show him these details alone tell him this is what you want and it saves a lot of time discussing style with each rep and waiting while they each measure. I think this also shows them you are not a complete pushover. Stay firm they will try to change something. |
