Beware of the cowboys ! ! ! (Double Glazing in General)

Disadvantages: it cost me a fortune,in windows and court costs.

I spent £1700 having two bay windows and a small bedroom window replaced,I wish I had never bothered.

It all started after having three quotes and choosing the middle quote.
Its no point revealing the companies name as they went bust,all of a sudden in the court room,when I won my case against them.
The ten year guarantee that these companies promote isnt worth the paper its written on.

Anyway a bit about what happened....
Firstly the window fitters didnt arrive on the date specified,repeated phone calls to the company were met with " we cant find the fitters".On the third day fitters arrived and their first words were "have you got a ladder,as we have lost ours"
One ladder was supplied.They removed top bay window,and put in new ones,only these didnt fit,they had been measured wrong.

As it was getting near tea time they said that they were off,but had wedged the frame in and it wasnt very safe.So dont let the children near it as it could fall out.During the evening the two middle windows,had sprung outwards enabling us to see the pavement below.I didnt sleep a wink that night as I was afraid the windows would,be on the pavement in the morning.

Next day new size windows were put in,I asked the fitters if they had much experience in this job,one declined to comment,the other said "I have put in one or two."I was getting pretty worried at this point.

When they had finished that window I was horrified.
There were one inch gaps left all round,between the frames you could see daylight and feel the wind blowing in.There were huge holes in the plaster work under neath,mastic all over the wallpaper and carpets,the whole job was a mess.

I rang the boss to complain,by this time other windows had been removed.Boss came to see what we were moaning about as He put it.Said"well if you arent satified,we are f*****g off,come on lads."

I said "you cant go I
havent got any windows in.His reply"well we will carry on,but no more complaints,else we are out of here" the rest of the work was just as appaling,my ex husband and I were really upset by the end.

We had even supplied three inch screws needed to fix the frames in,eight boxes of filler,just to fill huge gaps .
We just wanted to get rid of them.

At the end of the job the boss then presented us with a bill for £400 more than the original quote,I refused to pay it,he said"one day we will be back to remove our property,but it wont be when you are in".

I decided to take this company to court,after a winter where I had to remove my daughter from her own bedroom,because of the draughts and found that under the bay windows was saturated with damp.

We had an independant survey done on the windows,there were twenty five faults found,and the general opinion was that the fitters did not have a clue what they were doing.

Anyway I won my case against them and was awarded the full cost of the windows to enable me to replace windows using another firm.The window campany then announced they couldnt afford to pay us as they had gone into liquidation.
We ended up with nothing and still have these horrendous windows.

I dont know what people can do to prevent this type of company from existing,after all they seemed ok in the beginning always advertised in the papers,had big vans with there name on and had been going for about six years.You really do have to be careful of cowboys like these,they have ruined my home.
