Advantages: Less noise from outside, save money overtime, less loss of heat
Disadvantages: Expensive!
Double glazing windows. Something well heard of, but do you know what they do? Two panes of glass placed about an inch apart creating a vaccum between them then placed in your window. So basically you have two pieces of glass instead of one and this helps to insulate heat and also makes the window a little stronger and less easy to break.
I used to have double glazing at my old house. It is a lot better than a normal window. For one, it does insulate heat because less warm air can get out, and less cold air can get in because that vaccum of air between the two panes of glass isn't a good insulator. I also found that there was much less noise from outside which is especially good if you live on a main road or next to noisy neighbours who just love to slam their car door.
Double glazing is a bit pricey, you'll pay about £300 for a window. You can also get doors and conservatories that are double glazed. To have all the windows in your house double glazed would be expensive but then it does help to keep your house warmer which in effect means you don't need to heat so much, so overtime you do save money.
Using double glazing is also good for the environment. If you have double glazing, you're using less heating and therefore your household is more environmentally friendly!
Overall, it's good for the environment, good for your pocket (after you've bought it), and good for your house, so go for it!
Summary: A great idea but they're a bit expensive.
