Advantages: Salesmen did arrive when they were supposed to

Disadvantages: Pressurising salesmen, Too persistant

My husband and I have been shopping around for UPVC windows. I am, unfortunately, not impressed by Safestyle UKs tactics when it comes to selling their double glazing and doors.

To start with, we had a Safestyle canvasser knocking on our door. We told him that we didnt necessarily want the windows doing straight away but he assured us that if we agreed to have a salesman come round to our house, we would be left with a quote that would be valid for 3 months. Fair enough.....but it turned out to be a complete lie! A salesman did come round, but said that they cant leave written quotes so you have to make a decision there and then. The price could change if you ask them to come back. This puts you under an enormous amount of pressure when you are considering buying something so expensive. You need time to discuss these things.

When the salesman came to our house it was at a time when Safestyle had a sale - you could buy downstairs and get upstairs free. I live in a two-up, two-down terrace and the first price he gave us was £5000, meaning that before the 'sale', it would have cost us £10000 for 4 small windows and 2 doors. RUBBISH!!!!!

He was in our house for about three hours trying to get us to buy the windows. He even had his manager on the phone to my husband saying that he would knock a little bit more off if we signed up there and then. Between them, they tried their hardest to get us to sign up for finance (paying over 5 years), knowing that we could not afford the lump sum. They really put pressure on us but we were adamant and said no because we basically could not afford it. The salesman left.

A few days later, Safestyle rang, asking if they could send another, more experienced salesman as the first one had not been working for the company very long. We agreed.

The salesman came the following day. He couldnt really beat the price by much so after trying to push us into a finance deal (again), this one ta
lked us into getting a price for just the front of the house. The quote he gave us for this was £2200. My next door neighbour was quoted this for her whole house!!

In the end, we told them that we just werent interested anymore - they were quoting far too much. Besides, I didnt want to buy windows from people that were using such bully-boy tactics. It really annoyed me was that I was made to feel uncomfortable in my own home by the fact that we were pressurized so much.

Since then, Safestyle have kept phoning and asking if we have changed our minds or if they can send another salesman out. We have asked to be removed from their lists on more than one occasion but the calls still keep coming.

The whole experience was (and still is, judging by the phone calls) a prime example of a large (and greedy) company, trying to get as much money out of customers as possible.

Foxy Lady - add yourself to the Telephone Preference Service - www.tps-online.org.uk This removed you from any sales calls, and it is an offence for them to call you. This should get them off the phone quick enough if you tell them this next time they call

i had 2 doors and a window fitted, they cost £1300, the fitting and quality are poor, the after sales is just abysmal in trying to get the faults rectified. I am ready to get the trading standards involved. My recomendation is forget safestyle! Just as a matter of interest Staybrite windows use the same tactics and on top of that they are dearer and there has been quite a few problems since being fitted four years ago.
