We had our old metal windows replaced with double glazed ones a couple of years ago. It's amazing the difference it makes in reducing droughts and noise.

At the same time we asked for quotes on a pair of French doors and a front door priced at £1000 and £600. We turned this down as were amazed at how expensive they would be.

We found a pair of upvc double glased French doors at B&Q warehouse, a bargain at £320, we spent a further £15 on fixings and sealant. They were fairly straightforward to fit and saved us £680 on the original price, well worth the effort.

A upvc front door was found at Wickes for £180, again this was straightforward to fit and saved £420. The quality of both is very good and have had no problems with them.

Provided the original doors are a standard size you will be suprised at just how much you could save over the made to measure ones.

Even if you have to pay someone to fit them you will still be saving a lot of money.
