Advantages: Some docters are good.
Disadvantages: Long waiting lists.
Been a mum I really depend on my doctor a lot as my son has asthma when my son was first born I argued with the doctors that he had asthma but they kept saying he did not until one night he turned blue and was having trouble breathing. I was going to call the emergency doctor but knew I would be waiting several hours for them to come so I took him to hospital who confirmed what I had been saying all along he had ashama.
I was given a prescription for two inhalers and a spacer device as my son was only a baby. The inhalers were flixotide 25mgs which was a preventor and salbutamol 50mgs which is a reliver. After a couple of months the inhalers ran out so I had to visit my doctor who was very reluctant to give my son any more inhalers in the end he gave me a repeat prescription over the last three years I have seen my doctor hundreds of times mainly for my sons inhalers.
Although last year he kept having asthma attacks and none of his inhalers were working and the doctor was not willing to step his inhalers up in the end they did and the asthma attacks stopped for a while but on tuesday night he had several ashama attacks and I ended up taking him to the emergency docters. Luckily one of the doctors from my surgery was there and he told me kyle had a chest infection and asked me what strengh kyles inhalers were after I told him he explained to me that kyle needed a stronger inhaler nameley 250mg before I left he asked me to make an appointment for kyle at his asthma clinic where he would step kyles inhalers up and explain all about ashama to me.
So today I phoned my surgery who were very rude and told me the ashama clinic was at another clinic and they were all booked up and kyle would have to wait. In the end my mum phoned up shouted at them that he needed to see a doctor they agreed to tell the docter to ring up and after surgery he rang and said he could fit kyle in so why could the person who answered the phone not check instead of sayi
ng theres no room? I always thought children under five had to be seen but nowadays you have to book months in advance which I think is stupid. We need more doctors as there are not enough and you would not have to wait so long to see a docter.
My son finally saw the doctor today who changed his inhaler from a 50mg to a 250mg so hopefully now his ashama will be under control. The doctor I saw was very helpful and explained what was what and if I need any reassurance he is only a phone call away.My son is going back in a month so I will be updating again.
