Unfriendly and unwelcoming ! Pity !! (Mother Toddler Groups in general)

Advantages: Good for childrens social skills/interaction

Disadvantages: Children catch colds and viruses quickly and germs harbour when toys and equipment is not cleaned of

I recently moved to the South of England, away from friends and family (in the North) and ready to make new friends, for my children too. I have never experienced such unfriendly people in the parent/ toddler groups. I have been to several different ones and I have always made friends easily and am a "smiley" person. The last one i went to, I sat in between 2 small groups of mothers who sat turned inwards (away), as if they didnt want to be social. I sat there for 2 hours and twice i tried to make conversation and each time I got a nod or a short answer.
I left with my 2 year old daughter and baby feeling very deflated and low.
I will continue to go because I know how important it is for my children, but I surely wish I could find one with friendly, welcoming people !

Summary: If managed well and if attenders were a little more open to newcomers these groups could be good
