Parent and baby groups, great for some breathing space but equally very scary, every one always seems to have the perfect baby and motherhood fits them like a second skin!

I have normal children they occasionally sleep althrough the night that is at 2 & 4 and I am honest and it is the 2 year old that is better at sleeping but hey it doesnt matter but 4 years ago it really did and when I went to the mother and baby group I felt really upset that my beautiful little girl didnt sleep and wanted feeding whenever she pleased!

Luckily there was also a new mums group which was smaller and more intimate with 5 of us whoose children were all the same age within 4 weeks of each other and as we got to know each other our honesty grew and it turns out we all had normal children that didnt eat every 4 hours and didnt sleep through the night... oh the relief!!!

4 years on we still meet up and still offer each other support, occasionally I still go to the bigger toddler group and it is still fraught with tension because the children run riot and are all differant ages.

Toddler groups and mother and babies groups are excellant if are small and fairly well balanced by=ut the bigger they are the harder I found it I firmly believe that as long as you are able to laugh at yourself and take what evry other mother says witha bucket load of slat and you realise that children grow at their pace then you can gain lots from other adults who answer back and do not say why after everything!

Remember each group is very differant and often two or three are better than one,

Remember that the person next to you probably feels just as scared and bewildered as you and probably feels that you do it better!

Summary: great support and friendship to be had
