Needed a plumber to fix a blocked drain. Called Able and was told that the price would be £114, but could be more if it took a long time. When I asked what constituted "a long time" the salesman couldn't say, but he did say the price could be less if it didn't take very long to fix. As this is therefore a Variable Price Contract, I decided to take the risk and go ahead as I thought the the root cause of the problem was fairly simple and it wouldn't take long to fix.
Plumber appeared (an hour or two late but Hey Ho! that's plumber for you) and fixed the problem with one shove on an industrial plunger. I had been right, it was simple to fix; It took approximately 15 seconds to cure and three minutes to fill in and sign the paperwork afterwards. Job done - happy days!
Not so happy the following day as Credit card then billed for £114.
I rang to query the price; the job was sold to me on a variable price and could not have taken any less time than 15 seconds . There is no customer service line and you end up speaking to another salesman who told me that I was wrong and it had been a fixed price. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told it wasn't possible. I got shirty and demanded to speak to a supervisor. Again was told it wasn't possible but that "someone would call me". Two weeks later I got a call from someone at Able who said they'd looked into it and that it was a fixed price for a blocked drain. I explained that this was not what I had been told by the salesman and that I had therefore been mis-sold the job. I was told I was wrong. I asked to speak to another supervisor and was told that it wasn't possible but someone would ring me. I asked when? and they said they didn't know.
Three weeks later, no calls from the Able Group.
Mis-selling work is bad enough, but not having any form of effective complaints process in this day and age in not acceptable.
I note that ABLE were done by the Advertising Standards Agency for a false claim previously. Wish I'd done my research better before hiring them.
I wish I had read these reviews before I employed the services of Able Plumbers! I was quoted a no call out charge, however from the description I supplied I was quoted that labour would be £85 plus VAT, all I needed was a siphon replacing on my toilet cistern, a 10 minute job at most. I booked the plumber who finally arrived at 1pm today, firstly he strolled into my house in his dirty boots walking on my cream carpet without even offering to remove his shoes, he shoved a contract under my nose saying I would need to sign it before he could continue, I questioned the agreement to pay for parts, at this point he got quite defensive and aggressive! I explained that I couldn't agree to pay for something without knowing what it would cost, at which point he explained that it was the siphon that would need replacing that would cost £40 plus VAT, I agreed and signed the contract. He asked me to turn the water supply off which I did, next I heard a crash and he said oops I spilt some water. At 2pm he announced that the toilet was leaking and that he would need to go and get a seal which would cost a further £10 plus VAT, I said to him the toilet wasn't leaking, if it had been my bathroom would have been flooded seeing as the toilet hadn't stopped flushing all weekend due to the faulty siphon, and that the puddle on the floor was where he had dropped the cistern! I also questioned the cost of the seal, so I asked if I could ring the supplier where he was going to go so that I could obtain a price, now he got really aggressive and defensive, and as a lady on my own I was scared, so I told him I was going to get a neighbour, he started shouting at me that he didn't have time for all this rubbish and that I was more than welcome to go and buy the part myself! I returned with my neighbour and rang his head office to explain that I was uncomfortable, they were very understanding and said they would get a manager to ring me back. In the meantime the plumber disappeared to get the part, no return phone call was received and the plumber did not return for an hour! When he returned he waved the part under my nose telling me to google it and I would get the price! All I wanted by now was for this guy to finish the job and get out of my house. So what was a 10 minute job turned into 4 hours of intimidation and a bill of £160! He left, leaving my bathroom floor soaking wet without even making an attempt to clean it up!
ABLE GROUP. Awful experience, unreliable and not even remotely trustworthy company, dishonest employees, customer service is a joke! Stay away is my advice. Free quotes, no call out charge and "all inclusive" fee of £ 126.00 + VAT and materials, not chargeable if the company's engineer is unable to rectify the problem? Forget it! They will charge you no matter what, even if it involves fabricating another "work". The only way to stop this company to "milk" his customers is to refer them to the Trading standards, Watchdog, Ombudsman and a local МР.
just a WARNING. dont waste your time in calling this company (ABLE GROUP) they wont entertain complaints as well. inexperience, unreliable, unprofessional people. just bunch of money making and milking customers money. i had a very bad experience with there people. they will come but will never get it fix. they will try to do half the job so you are forced to booked another appointment with them.
Had a very, very bad experience with Able Group. Asked for help with a plumbing issue and they treated it as a blocked sink emergency call out, even though I had detailed my needs. Bloke did temporary fix but it fixed nothing, not even temporarily. When we tried to get them back to give as a proper quote on the work, they kept my partner waiting for two days at home. No one came when they said they would and no one would return her several phone calls - meaning a waste of time and a stressful experience for us both. Poor service, and no refund offered for the lack of any fix.
I called Able plumbers to arrange the fitting of a heated towel rail. We arranged to the following morning, got z call the following morning said couldn't do but could the come in the evening. I said no but arranged for the following morning. That evening I had a call to say my original quote was wrong & that it would be £60 per half hour plus parts (potentially higher), but confirmed the following morning.Next morning had a call saying couldn't come out but could do the evening. I told them to forget it.
I asked Able Group to sort out a leaking stopcock ( it's very old and obviously needs replacing). I was quoted £85 + vat for labour and extra for materials. The engineer put apiece of tape around it and charged the £85+ vat...£102.When I complained to the company I was told that if the engineer thought that this was what was needed then it was fair.(£85 for something I could have done for myself in 5 minutes is not fair it's totally dishonest.)I am now looking for a decent plumber to do the job properly.
Had a problem with my boiler. No hot water when central heating was off. Phoned PGS. Thy sent an engineer who spent half an hour diagnosing a fault and said he would come back the next day with the part which I had to pay for up front. Was charged full hour, £95 + vat. Engineer arrived next day much later than agreed. Spent an hour trying to fit the part, was unable to. Said it would be easier to instal a new boiler. He said he would put everything back as before. When he had finished he said "All done" so I signed off. After he had gone I found I had no central heating. So now I have a useless boiler and am £344 worse off. I am still waiting to be reimbursed for the parts I bought. Obviously, if the engineer was unable to fit the part that can,t be helped but I don,t believe I should have been charged for 3 hours with no result.
I had a very bad experience with Able group. Called them to fix leak in my toilet cistern. The engineer came did the work and said it was sorted. After he left I noticed it was still leaking. Called the company again, the engineer came (not on the agreed date but the day after without informing about the delay). He and his colleague worked on it again, said it was now sorted. And again when they left it was still leaking. Customer service is rude, complaint resolution is horrible. Do not go with this company! Waste of time and waste of money!!
Plumbers from H2 have installed shower pumps at our property twice in the past few years incorrectly. The first pump failed out of warranty so we replaced it and the second pump then failed within a few months of being installed. When we discussed the installation with the shower pump manufacturer (Salamander), they said that the installer had clearly not followed the instructions in the pump installation guide and that the pump had as a result been installed wrongly for two reasons, one of which was serious, and they therefore denied responsibility under their warranty. The first installation has also been done incorrectly and, had the pump still been within its warranty period, they would have denied responsibility under their warranty on that occasion as well, but at least we would have found out about the problem earlier. It turned out that the installer had never installed a pump to the requirements of the installation guide, most importantly to use preferably an Essex flange or alternatively a Warwick flange but not a Surrey flange, and in fact had never heard of a Warwick flange. Very poor and the company has since essentially ignored our requests to deal with their mistakes, responding to emails only to say that they will look into the situation and tell us what they intend to do but never actually coming back to us with any proposals. Three months have now passed since we discovered the problem with the second pump and we have solved the problem ourselves and are now considering whether to pursue an action in the small claims court. Avoid.
NIGHTMARE! For gods sake use Dynorod instead.
Firstly ASPECT came on the wrong day but charged me a callout anyway.
Then the guy came but his jet wash was broken. They charged me anyway.
Thirdly, a guy came at the wrong time when were were open to the public. They
charged me. (I had explained the times to 3 different people).
Finally a guy came and as far as I was concerned, he jetted the pipes, charged me
and all was well.
£320 was taken from my card and after A LOT of phone calls and emails, they
credited some back, but not as much as I expected.
Today I see my toilets are not unblocked at all. The water levels are rising in the toilets.
I phoned Aspect. APPARENTLY they have left messages (on a phone number with no
voicemail) to tell me the 'Engineer' couldn't unblock the pipes but needed a camera.
He didn't find it necessary to tell any of my staff on site. He just said goodbye and left.
If they come back with a camera, it's another £162.
Dynorod charge £150, they supply TWO MEN AND A CAMERA as standard.
DO NOT USE ASPECT. IT'S A LICENCE TO PRINT MONEY
I have recently had a boiler problem so I contacted PGS plumbers which says it's local but actually they are not, to come and have a look. they charged more than £100 per hour including VAT. They did not find the problem straight away I ended up paying much more than I should, over £500 and after three weeks my boiler was worse than it was. They are apparently realible but they are not! They just rip any client off. I will never use them again and also I do not recommend them. If you need a plumber, get someone you know or have been recommended, that's my advice!
I had batchroom fitter (calls himself graham from acorn plumbing and heating). took my money and left just to find out next day pipe was leaking behind new tiles flooded bathroom floor up.called him but will not accept responsibility, not even return to just stop the leak so we can use water elsewhere in house.he has house address on his card, I thought he was genuineI asked the person recommended him how he knew him, he told me he just took number from his van.I went to his house just to find out it was not even his living address.Be careful of graham trading under acorn plumbing and heating (DY6 postcode).Bruce.
Following an horrific experience last year with a local plumber, I engaged with some trepidation another to service my boiler and fire today. The plumber who serviced my boiler and fire today from Newman Moore (Sleaford) was outstanding. He was efficient, competent, experienced, dedicated and knowledgeable and gave me a full verbal report on the condition of the appliances as well as a proper Gas Installation / Safety Record itemising his work and the fact that both appliances are Safe. What a change from the shoddy work of their competitor last year who after playing with and brushing - rather than properly servicing - the fire said it was unsafe and asked to switch it off - essentially he condemned it - when what was required was a proper dismantling, thorough cleaning, and proper testing which thankfully Newman Moore did today. Newman Moore's representative as an excellent professional plumber and I have no hesitation in recommending this company.
Completely disgraceful customer service from booking through to the giddy nature of the plumbing work. Living in west hampstead I will never use this organisation again.
