Advantages: Good windows, friendly pre fitting sales

Disadvantages: Not interested in faults after installation complete

We had our windows and doors replaced less than a month ago by Safestyle UK. The salesman was very friendly and after a lot of haggling we got the price we were happy with.
The surveyor was very helpful and checked the contract thoroughly, even finding a couple of mistakes salesman had made.
They offered us an installation date of less than 4 weeks which was brilliant and then got a phone call offering it even earlier. We WERE impressed.
However then the fitters arrived. One of them was blatantly rude to your face and you got the feeling you were an inconvenience. That aside the installation went well without any problems and considering the price we brushed the rudeness aside.
Less than a week after being fitted a door lock would not work properly. Rang customer services and they advised to remove plastic bungs in door frame as this usually works. It did not ( and since when am I an engineer?). Said they couldnt send anyone out for nearly 3 weeks. Explained it was our main door and was not happy as it was safety hazard ( not wanting to get locked out of own house!) Still said nothing they could do for 3 weeks.
Engineer came yesterday, fixed problem with lock working better than before.
Today however I noticed glinting metal at bottom of door, discovered that door hinge pin has now dropped out! Got straight onto safestyle who again could not offer me anything before 3 weeks. Explained that we were far from happy as only being installed a month ago & so far have being only able to use the door for approximately 1 week!! He said if I'd like to hold on he'd phone engineer to see if earlier date possible, at which point he cut me off. By now fuming I rang straight back and explained all again to another person. Again said a 3 week wait. Told him this totally unreasonable as it so new and fed up with shoddy workmanship. The alignment of the door now being affected due to missing hinge. Still told 3 weeks. It seems to me they bend over backwards pre installation, any problems afterwards forget it. They not interested.

Summary: Great service before installation, once they got your money they reluctant to help with any faults.

Yes they do use sub contractors but I don't see this as an excuse. As a large nationwide company they should cover our area, after all they were very keen to make the sale and fit their windows promptly. Our area was not a problem then. They were very eager to please. My argument with them is simply that the installation was a month ago and I do expect better aftersales having already had to call them twice for faults. So far we have been able to use our front door for approx 1 week out of 5 since it was installed. When I explain this to their customer services they simply do not seem interested.

I am not sure one experience of a company like this is enough to judge by. Do they use subcontractors ? If so, perhaps its that that is lacking in your area, and may not apply to other areas that the company covers.
