I have just experienced the identicle sales technique as
Philippe Ingels - mentions in his review on 19.09.06.
I tell the Agent (LEE) right at the start of the visit that I will not be signing today as I would like to compare his price with other companies to see if it is a fair price and reflect the market average.
LEE measures up and quotes a very high price. after some sales banter the price is now almost half the original quote.
i still don't sign.
he phones the quote in to the office his office to see if they will allow a further discount,(which they do). i am now on £3140 for 5 windows and a french door from him.
i still don't sign on the basis that i told him from the outset. i will need to compare with other suppliers to see if this is a fair price.
The head office in Bradford phones a few days later and tells me there are complaints against the agent who visited!!!
He has been misquoting people & can they send an area manager (MICHAEL) out to remeasure & requote. They promise they will beat the original quote considerably!!!
The area manager called this morning to arrange the visit and offers about £300 saving over the phone. I tell him of the call from his Bradford head office and the complaints raised against his agent. He tells me that the agent is one of his best and that the original price was correct.
I tell MICHAEL politely that there is no point coming tonight as i have already received better quotes from other window companies. I also tell MICHAEL that I was only allowing them back on the basis that they (SAFESTYLE) had made an error in the original quote and to give them a fair chance to beat my other quotes.
I tell MICHAEL that the call from Bradford seems to me (in retrospect) to be a sales technique to find out what i have been quoted elsewhere and to CON customers into thinking they were getting a good deal .
I have asked him to pass MY complaint to his head office. I will be surprised if they act on it or even have the coutesy to contact me, even though they have a customer complaints charter which they feature prominently on their website.
Why not just give me the best price in the first place and cut out all this misleading rubbish.
Summary: dont fall for their ploy - it is wrong and should not be believed - walk away

- 22/01/09 Thank you ouchnotagain!! I was in the middle of the scenario written about by ouchnotgain, entitled "Safestyle - liars - using complaints to try to close a sale - do not allow them back. (Safestyle UK)". Just at the bit where HO in Bradford had called me back and I was put on hold and just happened to be reading this article. I read what the HO said to him, and wow they said exactly the same thing to me about complaints against the saleman, who he said was new to the business (Harry was actually lovely and had been with them since 2001). It was surreal, I let him waffle on and then told him I was just reading about someone else's exact same experience. Which put him out some what. He said a rival double glazing company must have put it on, hah I said, but how did they know what you were going to say, if it was a scurilous article! He said he would get the Area Manager to call me back, good I said because I know what he will say too. He asked what that was, but I said no it would spoil it if I told. Daft thing is I was actually going to buy from Harry, just sorting the finance out with my bank. I won't be touching them with a barge pole, now. But it was the funniest call I have ever taken from a serious salesman. lol! You have saved me from making a very stupid decision, thank you once again. |

- 13/11/07 Just had Safestyle UK on the phone telling me they've had complaints about the agent giving incorrect quotes and asking if I would be interested in getting a re-quote. Told him I wasn't! It wouldn't surprise me if they do this with everyone. It's a dirty trick. |

- 03/11/07 The exact same thing (apart from complaint bit - well, not yet anyway) has just happened to me, so it's obviously the way that they do business. I agree that they should just give a fair price to start with (I told him this but it just kept him wittering on for another 20 minutes). To be honest I suspected very early on where the agent was going. He wouldn't even give me a written quote, saying that he would post it to me. He even "forgot" his calculator so that he could have one last go; he'd put it away into its nice wallet, put it in his case and then got it back out again and left it on my desk, coming back 10 minutes later. |
