thank god i read this first. i knew exactly what to expect. they knocked the door, offered us a free no obligation quote valid for 12 months. i agreed that i might be considering glazing in the nxt 6-12 months and i'd take a quote for future reference.
within half hour i had a call from the birmingham office [im in stratford on avon] saying there was a salesman around and could he stop by 'this very night, as luck would have it'. i agreed, explaining i wanted a quote which i would consider in 6-12 months. he said fine, the guy would be here at 8.30-9.00 for a 45 minute visit, approx. [i didnt fancy a 45 minute visit at that time of night, but what the hell, if the quote is good, its worth it].
got a call half hour later [7.30] the guy can come early, he'll be with you shortly. salesman came at 8pm.
i invited him in, showed him round and told him to crack on with the quote. he was asking me some pointless questions, didnt have a pen or paper to measuer anything, said he had samples in the car which i said i wasnt interested in looking at, i just wanted a quote. he said he didnt know which windows i would like, i told him to email me the quote with the variable fittings and i could make a decision and look at samples nearer the time, i dont know if i will still want white in 12 months, i may change my mind to brown...?
i gave him my business card with my email address to send the quote. he then got his phone out and called his 'manager'. repeated to his manager what id just said about wanting a quote for future reference, then put his managr on to me. the manager asked me what had changed in the last half hour [very aggresively] i said nothing? i want a quote, why cant this salesman just measure up and give me a quote. i put the phone down on the 'manager' and told the salesman to do the quote or go. he walked upstairs for 30 seconds, asked me some crap about the door, then picked up his briefcase, without havig even opened it and left, saying they'd email the quote.
bunch of bloody fly by night. i'm a salesman and have been for 20 years. this is what you call front line sales. the prices are massively inflated so they have room to manouevre you into a high pressure sale on the spot, they want a signature now, they will not wait. i've done it before and you're expected to return to the office with signatures and cheques, thats what you get paid your commission on.
i had a quote from a local company in alcester [sorry i cant remember who they were] they came, he spent 15 minutes measuring up, left me a quote on official paper then thanked me and left. nice guy, didnt push, 900 quid for the top, he estimated another 900 odd for the bottom. thats 7 windows and front and back door.
safestyle have got a great business, but they dont do themsleves any favours. if they would just give cheap quotes and be honest and genuine with their customers they'd have a phenomenally better reputation. i will not answer anymore of their calls or knocks.
Summary: dont bother, unless you're desperate and there are no other installers in your county.
