Advantages: We got a good quote
Disadvantages: May have got a dodgy credit agreement
Hi
We have had the sales person round. He stayed 4 hours, and seemed a very nice chap (although we tried to speed him up, he genuinely seemed nice and we couldn't help but be caught up in converstation with him). The problem came at the end, where we had a very uncomfortable time - aound 20 mins - trying to pursuade him to leave the (very competetive) price as a quote. But he wouldn't go with that option saying this was the only time we would be given that quote, and as we were led to believe (by his very good sales tactics) we were getting a good quality window - better than the competitors we had a quote from before (Yorkshire Windows).
He had at this point done what most of the reviewers said, and quoted us a "list" price which was over the top, then come down a couple of times to a very good price. We decided because the window fitting date could be confirmed (unlike Yorkshire Windows who sent us a quote in the post later and we hadn't agreed to yet) that we would go ahead.
We were told that we would save money by setting up a credit agreement rather than paying by cash (around £400, in fact) which seemed a good idea and told us it was a flexible agreement with no penalties should we pay up earlier,as long as it ran for 12 months, and that we wouldn't have to pay the extra interest owed (which can also act as a penalty). We pointed out on the paperwork that there was nothing in the credit agreement to say this, and that it in fact mentioned something that looked like penalties. He assured us it was not that at all and said it referred to a scenario if we defaulted on payments.
His measurement were very quick and he bodged up a couple of the diagrams, so this has to be mentioned to the surveyor, and didn't account for the fact that we mentioned the old sash fittings would need to be removed, citing that our windows couldn't be that old and when then window were last fitted the sashes would have been long-gone. So that is their loss, as he didn't account for the extra work in the quote. He had also forgotten about some cladding which he didn't quote for and had to add free at the end.
So we'll find out tonight when the surveyor gets here what will happen. If it turns out that the creditors have recently changed their agreements without our sales person knowing, we will be reporting it to TVs Watchdog, as I am sure other people will soon be caught out with that one. Watch this space.
Summary: To be continued
