I am writing this as I sit in my living room waiting for the 8th (eighth) replacement window to be fitted. This is the eighth day I've had to arrange to be at home all day.
Each window has been scratched in different places between the two panes. The first window was fitted in July and I noticed the scratches the next day. It's now 5 months later. Last time they attempted to fit a replacement, *two* windows had been produced on the same order number in error and *both* were damaged.
I've been told they won't discuss compensation until the installation is finally completed. We took the 1 year's free credit option - and signed it all off on the day of first installation before noticing the scratches - so I am concerned that technically they have our money so won't have much of an incentive to strike a deal with us - but I'll be pushing hard.
After the last failed replacement window I asked if they'd just refund our money and let us go to another company who are capable of manufacturing quality windows. (It is a very large window and I'm sure difficult to produce but that's what we thought we were paying for!) Honestly - we could live with the scratches for a partial refund, and they must have lost so much money keep having another go at it. I was then told again that they wouldn't discuss compensation until the window had been installed to our satisfaction - rather missing the point.
One bright point is that the installers have been lovely and reasonable and are clearly long-suffering. However, no one ever phones to say what time they'll be here - despite promises that they will - and I'm getting sick of the sight of them all!
We also had a new front door which is OK but cheaper looking than we'd hoped. Never again!
Summary: incapable of producing a window that's not scratched
