Advantages: Free books and bag, helpful library staff
Disadvantages: none
Bookstart is a great scheme, after all who doesn't like free stuff!
When my son was born I went to my local library for the monthly Baby Time Rhyme and Story session and was told that if I signed him up to the library I'd get a free Bookstart bag of books. I did this and got a great canvas bag which gets used loads now for nappies, shopping etc, some information about reading with your baby and 2 free books. The books are small books with no fancy touch feely / flaps / music etc which is actually a nice change as it means that even from a very early age my son could have them to look at on his own with no danger of any real damage.
This summer we did the Bookstart baby crawl and spent a lot of time in the library, borrowed some books to look at at home and got a free t-shirt.
As my son is now 14 months old I think we'll be due the next Bookstart pack soon and I'm really looking forward to it.
I think all this free stuff for babies is great and its important to read and use books. My son has always loved his bedtime story and likes to look at a book as much as he likes to play with most of his toys. They're also good for getting him to sit still to have his nails cut.
Summary: Make sure you get yours
