Advantages: Very easy to use and colour good

Disadvantages: none

Much to my disgust, my hair has decided to turn grey right at the front where I can see it every time I look in the mirror. I usually hide this with Clairol Nice 'n Easy Golden Brown but have found lately that this tends to make my hair very dry. I therefore decided to have a change and bought L'oreal Casting Creme Gloss in Light Brown. My natural hair colour is mousey brown with a few hints of auburn when caught in the right light!

The Casting Creme Gloss is, according to the box "a conditioning colour - no ammonia, visible shimmering tones and lasts for up to 28 shampoos, blends away greys". This sounded like the sort of thing I was looking for so I went ahead with the patch test that they strongly recommend. 48 hours later all was ok so I prepared to go ahead.

The box itself gives lots of information including a colour result guide giving an indication of how the colour will look if your hair is light brown or brown. There is also a comprehensive instruction leaflet inside giving step by step instructions for both already coloured hair and non coloured hair. There are also lots of safety instructions to try and prevent any problems with allergic reactions etc.

In the box is 1 tube of creme colourant, 1 tube of Developer Creme, 1 precision tip applicator, 1 bottle of conditioner with Royal Jelly and 1 pair of plastic gloves.

The developer creme comes in a tube so L'oreal have devised a tube shaped press out in the box so that the tube can be stood safely when squeezing in the creme colourant. The tube then has to be closed with the special precision tip applicator and shaken to blend the two liquids together. It then advises that the tip of the applicator be snapped off to prevent the bottle bursting. This process took less than 5 minutes. It was then very easy to squeeze the colour onto my hair and massage in a little using the gloves. The product says that is is non drip and that was definitely the case - Clairol product tends to run down my face - not attractive!

I left the colour on for the stated 20 minutes (it can be left a further 5 mins for better grey coverage). It was then just a case of rinsing my hair throroughly and applying some of the conditioner.

I found the whole process very easy and the instructions were clear and concise with picutures illustrating each point of the instructions. Because there is no ammonia in this product the smell was quite pleasant and the conditioner has a very nice perfume. I was very pleased with the colour, it was near enough the colour on the box and my hair really shines with natural looking highlights and all the grey bits have disappeared! It also feels nicely conditioned and soft to touch so a great improvement on how it was.

All in all I found this hair colour very easy to use and I am very pleased with the end result - will definitely use again.

Summary: Does what it says on the box!

After using permanent hair colourants for years, I've taken to using this whilst growing out my colour and I really like it. I was quite impressed.
