Advantages: GORGEOUS!
Disadvantages: TOO SIMILAR IN SHADES....
I think it's safe to say my social life has taken off with a bang of late!
Two holidays - one in Wales and one in England - two concerts and a big drunken night out in the past month have all called for the glitz and glamour only good eye makeup can provide me with!
Now as it happens I sent my daughter off to Boots a while back now with a couple of L'Oreal vouchers with £2 off any of their products no matter what the original price. I regretted my generosity immediately when she came back with two of the most gorgeous eye shadows I've ever seen in my life, one being a 'Colour Appeal' shade called '151 Pure Gold' and another one called 'Chrome Shine' with the slightly darker colour of '165 Golden Rose'
These two hues were mouth-wateringly luscious for a cosmetics freak like me; thus duly I whinged, moaned and carped on alarmingly (a bit like my beloved Goth-Zilla does every time we visit Morrisons for her favourite titbits!) until eventually said teenager capitulated and handed her booty over, Mwahhhh!
Discovering that 'Pester Power' really does work in reverse I now had in my possession a duo of beautiful shimmery shadows to experiment with ready for my hectic social life...
The full price of L'Oreal's little square compartments are around the £4.88 mark, and believe me folks they are worth every penny!
When I checked out the various shades for myself recently there were six stocked in my Boots but that may not be the entire range as my store isn't the biggest in Sheffield - that would be Meadowhall's branch.
Appearance-wise these little flip-lidded transparent containers are really pretty, as are the contents within.
Quality screams with both the golden packaging/lettering and the way the iridescent contents have been arranged into a multi-faceted star shape.
Great care and consideration has been given to the way the products are displayed within their casing, and for the magpie cosmetic collector in me the aesthetics appealed greatly compared to just a flat round make up range.
I hoped the powders, made in Italy by the way, actually performed on my face as well as they looked sat there twinkling up at me begging to be painted above my almond shaped eyes!
Important to mention is that my eyes are green and change colour in certain lights so I always look for golden/brown shades in eye powders (I don't wear creams) to offset my eyes as much as possible...
Clicking open the first variety which was the Colour Appeal, the gold looked so lovely sat there it seemed a shame to break that beautiful pattern but of course it had to be done.
The pure gold powder is set in a circle and is supplied with a useful clear-handled sponge-tipped applicator that tilts slightly which does really help in dabbing the powder gently on at first. All the different shades are set out in the same way with the plastic applicator nestling in its own inlaid tiny compartment to keep it safe and clean.
Stroking both the powders on is very easy and there is little mess if you are practiced in applying shadows.
I found the golden shade to be glitteringly luminescent and wonderfully light to the feel. The texture is very, very fine indeed and the appearance on my pale skin was brilliantly bright and really lifted the speckles in my irises out nicely.
However it was a different story with the Chrome Shine with the shade that looked a light brown/taupe shade, which should have complimented the metallic hue of the Colour Appeal perfectly. This eye shadow I found very disappointing when I broke into the powder as it was so much lighter beneath the crust of the surface that it looked almost as light on my eyelids as the latter did which I had applied first.
Crestfallen I tried another coating of the Golden Rose shade but it made no difference - it was significantly lighter than its surface area shade, and I ended up with a sparkling lid area which looked amazing but all one colour rather than a two-toned effect I was striving for.
It was as though the manufacturers had just put a thin coating of a much darker hue over the top of the Chrome Shine and yet beneath it was the other shade I already had.
I was not impressed although as a product overall this stuff is just fabulous!
Accordingly my rating has to drop a star sadly to 4 shiny Dooyoo Stars for a simply fantastic multi-glitter particled glistening make up that is wonderful quality but needs to define its existing shades better than it does at the moment.
If you pick a certain colour to create your own cosmetic palate then you expect that colour to be the same all the way through - not just on the surface L'Oreal, Tut!
The only thing I could advise is make sure your shades choices are very different to ensure you can achieve a subtle shade difference; but please do buy some if this is your thing as it's so beautiful and ideal for the upcoming festive season where sparkle should pervade throughout the Dooyoo world!
