Advantages: Removes waterproof make - up, has a very nice smell, efficient - will last for several months
Disadvantages: Complicated to use, irritates eyes and blurrs vision, expensive
I recently bought L'Oreal De-maq Expert Elixir Concentrate Ultra Make-Up Remover. It is designed with professional technology to remove waterproof and long-lasting cosmetics from eyes and skin.
Before, I had tried another product to remove my new waterproof mascara but it didn't work so I decided I would opt for something more effective this time.
To be honest I was tempted by the price of this product, which was quite expensive at £5.49 in Boots (I though expensive product must work well), and claims on the tube that it contained a 'professional' and 'most concentrated' formula. I bought it.
Packaging:
The tube looks professional, has very good description and instructions on how to use the product and it is easy to open. It is also transparent so you know how the product looks like inside before you buy it. One tube contains 100ml of the gel, which should last for several months since you only use a pea-size amounts each time.
Use:
In principle, the product should be easy to use. You need to smooth it with your fingertips along the lashes or face, wait until the make-up is dissolved, then add some water which will transform the gel into liquid, and finally wipe off or rinse.
From my experience I can say that removing make-up with Elixir Concentrate is quite time consuming and messy. First, you need to wait a few minutes before the make-up dissolves, especially difficult is a mascara, then remove the gel from your face. Make sure you the gel doesn't get into your eyes and don't touch your clothes with the fingers as the gel is quite greasy. I also recommend rinsing with water or a face wash, because it leaves a shiny and greasy residue on the skin. I tried only wiping off with a cotton wool but couldn't remove the product properly this way. The cotton wool was so dry, I felt as if I was doing more harm to my skin than good.
Product:
I enjoyed the smell, which seems to be nicer and stronger when you use Elixir Concentrate, not so much if you try to smell from the tube. The gel itself has good texture which is very easy to smooth onto the skin, although I felt a bit as if I was putting melted lard on my eyes when I used it. The product does work, however you need to wait a few minutes before waterproof mascara dissolves and you can remove it. On the plus side, there is no rubbing involved so you won't get wrinkles trying to clean your face ïÂS
Elixir Concentrate is described as gentle on skin and eyes but I found it irritated my eyes, especially that it was very difficult not to get it into my eyes in the first place. Because the gel is quite light in texture, when applied to eyelashes it easily gets into the eyes. If you manage to avoid this, then it will most probably get into your eyes when you try to rinse it off. But the worst thing is that you need to remove the make up with the eyes closed - if you try to open them in the process, you will not be able to see anything clearly as it seems to affect the vision slightly.
In conclusion, I think L'Oreal De-Maq Elixir Concentrate is a good product for getting rid of waterproof mascara, it does a good job removing long lasting make-up and will also last very long. But I wouldn't recommend it if your eyes are sensitive or if you are looking for a product that works quickly and is simple to use.
Also on Ciao under the same name.
Summary: Efficient and effective but messy to use

- 04/10/09 Sounds awful! I use Body Shop waterproof eye make-up remover, it seems to work on everything. |

- 02/10/09 It's probably not the most pleasant to use, but that's the only thing that removes my waterproof maskara, so I will definitely keep using it |
