Advantages: Brightens, refreshens, smoothes the eye contour area
Disadvantages: There's brightness enhancing pink glitter in it, price
~ Introduction ~
After finishing off my tube of disappointly poor Simple Regeneration Age-Resisting Eye Creamearly this year, I set out to find my next buy. I was looking through the shelves of L'Oreal skincare as this is what I opt for most often having been used their Wrinkle De-Crease creams for the most part of last year and was satisfied with the result. However, I also spotted that they have launched a new skincare range called Derma Genesis. The matching Eye Contour Cream was on special promotional offer for £11.99 so in it went with the purchase.
~ What it claims it does ~
- Answering the skincare needs of 25-45 year old women
- Smoothes and tones the delicate skin around the eye area
- Nurtures cells in the top skin layers for dewy, plumped up, younger looking skin
~ The packaging ~
The cream comes in a non-recyclable white tube with a round bottom that's enclosed in a transparent outer tube which has a flat bottom. I find this design annoying and a waste of resources and material. After all, why does an eye cream bottle need to look like some kind item exhibited at a futuristic design centre? I have to add, Lancome is doing the same type of double-encased design of their Renergie Skincare range. Madness!
~ Apperance and application ~
The pump-action lid is a clever design however, you turn the nozzle facing the front and it's locked. You turn it to the right and you can dispense the contents. By simply pressing down the pump once there's enough cream to use it on both eye areas.
The cream is light but not at all runny and has a pearly shine to it. It is non-greasy and has a distinct acidic smell indicating the presence of Hythough it does not sting even after applying it to neat skin unlike Lancome Reenergie Eye Cream. I do advise of course to always tone your eye contour area first then apply the Eye Contour Cream. It will prevent stinging if your skin appears to be slightly (not visibly even) cracked or dehydrated.
~ What is does ~
- Smoothes and tones
I apply the cream each morning and evening by gently patting it around the eye contour area. I was happyly using away the cream in the past one and a half months as it produced an immediate brightening effect on the eye contour straight after applying the cream. The area looked less tired, felt toned and refreshed, ready for the day ahead.
My habit, especially in the mornings, is that I don't even look in the mirror when appying creams, I just put the cream on and pat it lightly until I can no longer feel any of it on the surface. The cream is absorbed very fast, so when I go and put some more moisturiser or make-up and do look in the mirror, all I can see are the results of the cream, the refreshened, hydrated look.
About a couple of weeks ago, as I was getting the cream on the tip of my fingers and looked at it, I saw that apart from it having a pearly shine it also had a pink tinge to it. When looked at the last closely, I could see that there were pink, glittery streaks in the cream. So that was my 'aha' moment then. It's the pink glitter that makes my skin look visibly brighter and toned!
~ What it doesn't do ~
- Answering the skincare needs of 25-45 year old women
No, it certainly doesn't anwer my skincare needs. Pink glitter is not what I would call 'natural skincare - harnessed through technology'.
- Nurtures cells in the top skin layers for dewy, plumped up, younger looking skin
Further investigation revealed that when not applying Lancome Renergie eye cream I've been using with Derma Genesis, the L'Oreal eye contour cream isn't consistent or thick enough to plump up the skin like Lancome Renergie does. The complexion in the eye contour area did appear dewy (the glitter effect) or younger (same), but it certainly didin't suggest it was actually doing anything on the cellular level. Disregarding the glitter effect, my eye contour area looks just as tired and dull as without L'Oreal Derma Genesis.
~ Conclusion ~
I've realised Derma Genesis Eye Contour Cream doesn't actually deliver much more that a normal toner / moisturiser duo wouldn't do. And I have an uneasy feeling that it only achieves the promised results on the surface of the skin with those glittery pink things. I will not buy it again.

Summary: An eye cream that seems to work but unsure if its the ingredients or the pink glitter
