Advantages: Perfect in every way
Disadvantages: None at all
When it comes to make-up, there is one item I can't live without, and that's mascara. Being "pale and interesting" means that I have some very fair eyelashes, which are completely white at the tips, and without mascara I just don't look made up, no matter what other make-up I'm wearing. It's pretty important to me, then, to find my ultimate mascara. I am happy to report that it has now been found, and this is it.
My search for the ultimate mascara taught me a few important lessons, which I will now share with you.
Lesson 1: I am a double ended mascara person.
------------------------------------------------- -------------
We all want different things from mascaras. The most important thing for me is drama and length. To achieve this, the best way is to go for one of those "put the white one with the small fibres on first, then follow with black" mascaras. Short of extensions or falsies, this is the best way of getting eyebrow-skimming lashes. I know a lot of people see these double ended mascaras as too much effort, but the effort is worth it.
L'Oreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes Mascara is a double ended mascara. The white layer in this has the best lengthening effect I've seen in all my mascara-ing. It is very noticeable. I know, because I doubted it and tried to go without - I'd never realised my eyelashes were stumpy until that moment.
Lesson 2: I am a blackest black mascara person.
------------------------------------------------- -------------
I've tried other colours and I've always been disappointed. I don't want natural looking eyelashes - I already have those. I'll take mine long, black and striking thanks.
L'Oreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes Mascara is perfect on this count - it is black as night - well, probably blacker than a lot of nights actually. Because of its silicone formula, it also leaves a slightly shiny appearance, which serves to make lashes reflect the light around the eyes a little whilst also being a gorgeous deep black colour. It looks fabulous on - the best-looking mascara I've tried, both on application and hours and hours after.
Lesson 3: I can't stand my mascara smudging.
------------------------------------------------- ----------
Smudging is a cardinal mascara sin as far as I'm concerned. Who likes those horrible little black smears on their lower eyelids really? If I've spent ages on my make-up, they completely ruin my look, making me look dishevelled and messy. Even if my make-up has been a rush job, it still drives me mad. Smudge on me, mascara, and you're in the bin.
Double Extension Beauty Tubes is different. Because it works by coating each of your lashes in a silicone tube, once it's dry it doesn't budge. It can't smudge - it becomes dry plastic when it's on your lashes, meaning that it isn't going anywhere.
Lesson 4: My mascara must come off easily.
------------------------------------------------- -------
Much as I detest smudging, I can't be doing with spending hours in front of a mirror with the eye make-up remover. It drives me mental. Traditional waterproof mascara is definitely not for me - I need something I can get rid of quickly. I'll never forget the last "ultimate" mascara I tried, which I couldn't get off for three days. I'd almost rather it'd smudged.
Removing Double Extension Beauty Tubes couldn't be easier. Whilst it is waterproof up to a point, if you rub it when it's wet then the mascara will start to come off. Because it has created little tubes around your lashes, it stays in these when it comes off - it just needs a little lukewarm water on them to help it on its way. It won't come off when its dry, and it won't come off when it's wet unless you rub it. It's ideal for me, as it means I can just take it off in the shower with a quick rub of the eyes. I'm all for quick and easy beauty products!
So, in summary, this is my ideal mascara. I can't see me changing from this one unless a competitor brings out another "silicone tubes" mascara. It lengthens, it looks amazing on, it doesn't smudge and it comes off easily. Also, because of the silicone formula, it doesn't flake, making it great for those of us with sensitive eyes, or contact lens wearers.
You'll recognise L'Oreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes Mascara by its distinctive double-ended maroon and white tube. It will set you back around £8.99, and mine has lasted a good few months with daily use. Go out and buy some! No, really - now!
Summary: It's taken 10 years, but now I've found my dream mascara!
