Advantages: Smells nice, lathers well, cleans nicely

Disadvantages: Leaves my hair feeling quite limp

Every time it is time to renew my shampoo, I always go for a different brand as I find if I use the same brand twice, my hair gets used to it and it doesn't have the same affect anymore. This also gives me the opportunity to try and test all the brands on offer in search of finding that perfect shampoo.

My hair is dyed blonde and therefore I do have problem hair whereby I have greasy roots and really dry ends from too much dying. I have tried a couple of L'oreal shampoos and so decided to try their colour protect one in the hope it would keep the colour in my hair fresher for longer, whilst hopefully sorting the dry ends and greasy roots at the same time.

The other couple of L'oreal shampoos that I have tried have really lathered up well and this one is no different. I love the way that you only need such a small amount of shampoo to create a really creamy lather which leaves you feeling like you have given your hair and scalp a really thorough clean and your scalp feels nice and tingly after use and your hair feels really clean, even when damp.

As with all other l'oreal shampoos, this one has that lovely sweet smell too which isn't fragranced as such, it's just a lovely clean, sweet smell which you can still smell on your hair after drying.

The shampoo itself is white with a slight pearlescent tinge to it. It is quite thick and gloopy which is good as it means you don't get any spillage and it is easier to monitor the amount you dispense from the bottle this way. The shampoo stands on its base, rather than its lid with the only problem being that you sometimes have problems trying to coax the dregs out from the base when you are nearing the end of the bottle so I suggest you leave it on its lid when you near this time so the dregs will be near the lid when you come to use it.

As for the end result, I wasn't as impressed with this one as I had been with previous L'oreal shampoos. The others I have tried have really impressed me and although my hair looked and felt clean after use, it didn't have that 'wow' factor I was hoping for. My roots no longer felt greasy, though the ends of my hair still felt rather dry even though I had used a conditioner alongside the shampoo. My hair felt completely clean and I didn't feel there was any residue left but my hair just looked and felt rather limp. Usually after blow drying, my hair looks full of volume, healthy and really shiny when I have used a really good quality shampoo but my hair really lacked any volume and just looked quite bland really which isn't really the look I wanted.

I don't like wastage and therefore I continued to use this until I had finished the bottle but I wasn't overly impressed with it. I felt I really needed to wash my hair thoroughly every night as within 24 hours of it previously being washed, it felt a bit dirty and greasy again and didn't look good at all.
Obviously the main job of this particular shampoo was to protect the colour in my hair. In all honesty, I didn't notice the colour in my hair looking any fresher for longer. I tend to colour my hair from home every 12 weeks or so and using this shampoo didn't alter that. After the 12 weeks, the colour had really faded in my hair and my roots were showing as much as they were before so I had to re-colour again, even though for a good few weeks in between time, I had used this shampoo on a regular basis.

The price for a 400ml bottle of this shampoo is £3.79 which isn't bad for a L'oreal product at all. Overall though, this shampoo wasn't for me I'm afraid. I loved the way it lathered and I felt it had given my hair a good clean, but it did nothing for my hair really and didn't enhance it in any way. I have tried a few L'oreal shampoos and there are others that I much prefer over this one so unfortunately I can't recommend this one too highly and advise that if you are going to use a L'oreal shampoo, that you purchase another in the range instead.

Summary: Not the best shampoo in the L'oreal range
