Advantages: moisturised hair, left it feeling nice
Disadvantages: nothing special, packaging
A while ago I bought a bottle of L'Oreal Elvive's damage care serum, and really liked it. I therefore decided to purchase some of the other products from the damage care range including the shampoo which I will review now.
This is a shampoo developed especially for damaged or brittle hair. It claims to fill in cracks, seal the cuticles and helps repair the hair for a silky feel. Big claims.
The product is packaged in a yellow bottle which has burgundy accents. It's the same shape as the other bottles in the L'Oreal Elvive range which makes it instantly recognisable as being a L'Oreal product, but I find the packaging fairly dull and boring all the same. One good point is that there is a dent underneath the flip top cap which makes it easier to open, even if you have wet hands.
The shampoo has a fairly thick consistency and has a slight pearlescent sheen. The smell is gentle and slightly citrussy. It smells fresh and clean which is what you want in a shampoo and it isn't too strong or overpowering.
I find a little goes a long way with this shampoo. Only a small amount will make a thick creamy lather, something I frequently forgot when I first started using it, resulting in a head full of froth that took ages to rinse away! The creamy consistency feels quite nice as you massage it into the hair, and when I use this I really feel like I'm getting my hair thoroughly clean.
I always follow with the matching conditioner. I find that the shampoo leaves my hair feeling soft and clean, and also I haven't noticed as much frizz as usual since I began using this which was an unexpected, but very welcome plus point.
The damage care part is the thing I find hard to judge. My hair has been damaged from regular use of heated appliances such as straighteners and tongs. I honestly can't tell whether my hair is less damaged than when I began using this product, but I have noticed one change which is perhaps helping my hair. That is that my hair feels more moisturised and the ends don't feel as dry. I think as a consequence of this my hair looks healthier, and hopefully any split ends will be less brittle and therefore less likely to break off.
Whilst this is definitely a positive change, I think it's also quite a subtle one. I don't think anyone else would really notice a difference in my hair, and using the shampoo doesn't seem to have added any shine, in fact I think my hair has been looking rather dull lately.
I bought mine from Boots, and although this particular product isn't listed on their website the other shampoos in the L'Oreal Elvive range cost £2.55 for a 250ml bottle or £3.59 for a 400ml bottle, so I assume that is what I paid for this.
Overall, when using this shampoo it doesn't feel like anything special, but I've been pleased with the results I've got from it. Because of this, I feel I can give it no less than four stars.
Summary: An ok product for the price
