Advantages: NICE FRESH SMELL, CREAMY LATHER, PRESERVES COLOUR FOR THAT BIT LONGER

Disadvantages: HAIR TENDS TO BE A BIT DRY WITHOUT CONDITIONER

After my last visit to my hairdresser for my usual dose of highlights, I decided to invest in a bottle of colour protect shampoo as I find that my hair colour normally fades quite quickly and starts to look dull and brassy.

Locating the perfect product is a task in itself. In my local Boots store, I literally felt like a child in a sweetshop. So many to choose from. Decisions, decisions. My final decision rested on L'Oreal Elvive's Colour Protect Shampoo purely because it was on 2 for 1 deal. Plus, we've all seen the adverts with the actresses showing off their gorgeous shiny locks. It must be true.

Priced normally at £3.19 for 300ml or £2.49 for 200ml, the shampoo can be spotted by its bright red bottle that stands out well from the crowd. It has L'oreal printed in bold gold lettering and Elvive Colour Protect Shampoo below in white.

The smell is quite pleasant - not too sickly sweet or overpowering. The shampoo itself is white and creamy, quite thick in consistency. It lathers quite well and you only need a little to produce a creamy suds. A little does go a long way in this case.

L'oreal Elvive Colour Protect Shampoo contains a specially formulated UV filter that helps protect your hair from the elements while special cationic polymers care for your hair by smoothing the cuticles leaving it looking beautifully shiny and healthy looking.

After I used this shampoo I was very disappointed. While I was washing it my hair did feel lovely and soft, but once I had rinsed the shampoo out, my hair began to feel rough and tangled. As this was my first trial I decided against using the conditioner as I was going to write my op and wanted to give other readers a true statement.

My hair was really hard to brush afterwards, but once it was dried and styled it did look really healthy and shiny, although felt dry to touch. Using the conditioner afterwards though made a real difference and hair really fel
t smooth and not straw-like.

A month on and my colour still looks fresh. I am happy with the colour, but find I have to condition my hair after each wash, whereas before I used to only use conditioner once a week.

I have highlights too but I've found that colour protecting shampoos tend to make it greasy. I'm sticking with herbal esscences too at the mo, the moisturisng ones make your hair really soft and clean. I'll be keeping L'oreal in mind though, great review!!!
