Advantages: Nice colour, Shiny hair, mmmm the smell

Disadvantages: Price in some shops

Having an ever changing hair colour I often get sucked in by all the new dyes out there on the market.

Having used Feria colour before and been very impressed with it, I was intrigued by the new "Colour Boost Technology" packs they have just released.

So of I toddled to Boots to purchase said product.

First of all the really red (pillarbox red) colour that Milla Jojovich has on her locks in the advert doesn't exist - yes all us wannabe pillarbox fake red heads have experienced this problem before with other hair dyes claiming to be pillarbox redness on adverts etc. Then turning out to be colours being "made up" in the adverts and marketing leaflets etc. (Incidentally this is proved by the fact that the picture they use in Boots to advertise the new Feria colours uses the real red haired woman from the box - only on the actual box colour its more coppery and not red at all!!)

Anyway (after that little rant) I saw the darker colour called "Pure Ruby Power" which is a deeper red colour. This looks more like the original "Chocolate Cherry" colour but has the added boost. So I opted for this one. Not the bright red I was hoping for but I only recently bleached and dyed my hair pink and wanted a change.

I then looked at the price and nearly fell over - £7.29! So off I toddled again round to all the other shops in Wolverhampton.

Still being quite pricey everywhere else, I nearly relented and reached for my switch card to buy it - until as I was doing so I went into a random slap the ass "doo doo doo do do" and thought of Asda. (I don't do that often - honest) Needing some food I dragged myself out later that night to have a look at just how much it was there.

Hair Dye aisle here I come. And to my luck they only had the "Pure Ruby Power" (or intense deep red) colour I wanted. The price? A much more sensible £5.29. As most permanent hair dyes
now are around £5 I think this is a fair price to pay.

Ok then. So now I have bored you all with my story of actually purchasing the blooming item, I will tell you about how it works, looks etc.

As I have used Feria colour before and know I'm not allergic to it or anything I steamed ahead with the process of dying my hair.

First you have to wet your hair - but not wash it. i.e don't use shampoo/conditioner

Then (and if you're like me and slop the stuff everywhere you NEED to do this) cover everything around your bathroom/kitchen/living room/house to avoid stainage from this product. (I think it washes out of towels etc. but DON'T quote me on it - best off using old ones which I'm sure hair dye addicts have loads of!)

Wear an old t-shirt too to protect your skin.

Now we are looking attractive and are ready to apply the mixture. So begin mixing it...

...and here is the bit you are all waiting for - what on earth is that "Colour Boost technology?" Well. It?s quite disappointing really. Its a little squeezy tube of pure pigments, which in this case they were bright red. So I squeezed them into the tube and the whole mixture went bright red! "Woopppeeee I though - I may have bright red hair yet!" Not so as it turned out.

Anyway - applying the mixture. I find the easiest thing to do is to comb your hair so you're tangle free and then apply the mixture to tangle free hair. I have no particular order for doing this but I do it different to how they explain you should. I normally squeeze the tube around my hairline at the front and down the middle - as my hair is parted here so this is where roots show the worst. I also get the little side-burny bits above my ears.

After I have covered these areas I generally squeeze a load into my hands and smother it over my head until all the mixture is used.

Feria is very easy to use in this sense. It is
sort of like a gel - it looks sort of coloured-transparent - so it goes on and stays on your head very easily. It also means it is quite easy to work through the hair. And make sure you do this to avoid having gaps. Sometimes it is recommended to comb the colour through but I can't comb my hair easily when it is covered in stuff so I don't bother and tend to use my fingers through my hair to make sure of even coverage.

So now we're looking really attractive - covered in hair dye (as are our surroundings hence the towels) and we have to fill half an hour of our time while waiting for the colour to develop. I find Eastenders is adequate for this gap.

30 minutes later and off to the shower room. Washing the colour off is quite easy. It smells nice and comes off quite quickly. Although (as ever) the water never seems to run completely clear!! Now you add the lovely shampoo they give you with it. This stuff smells really nice and I wish I had a massive bottle of it. Strangely the instructions tell you to wash your hair with this twice, I'm not sure why but I did it anyway! So you use half of the tube each time - I actually left a bit of this so I could use it again because it?s so nice!! But I felt there was enough in there to not use all of it now.

Ok then Hair dyed and dry.

What do I think of the colour?
Extremely close and true to the colour on the box. Good. I hate it when they come out different.

Condition of the hair?
Fine. Very shiny. Not a problem (and not Feria's fault) but its maybe a touch dry at the ends - but that?s probably because I haven't had my hair cut for ages and as most of you know hair dye can do this straight away if you haven't conditioned enough (maybe I should have used all of that stuff...) It doesn't look it by any means - I can just feel it slightly.

Overall hair dying experience?
Excellent.
The smell is great ? well I love the smell of
Feria hair dyes anyway!
<br>It?s easy to apply and there's plenty to go over longer hair (my hair is to the middle of my back) and with using Feria dyes I never have a shortage.

Anything else to add?
Well yes actually - what is the point in that booster? Did I miss something? I'm not sure. I think on the advert they mention something about it staying in longer. Well we'll have to see as time goes on.
Also I don't see why you have to add it yourself...they changed the packaging etc and they are different colours to the other Feria things I think so why add it yourself? Admittedly not a big one but its another thing to add to the mixture.
Anyway - now I'm just being finicky and this op is quite long!

I thought I'd mention here that the product is not reccommended on hair more that 30% grey.

What I'm trying to say is:

This is a good hair dye and I don't think many would be disappointed with the results. I enjoyed using it and Feria have not disappointed with this new dye. Its good for people with longer hair as there seems to be plenty of dye.

I'll get back to you on how long it lasts!!

very nice op!

Although i have a query. I wanna dye (part of) my hair blue. Feria looks like the stuff. But some of my hair has been already dyed (black) and some hasnt. Will this affect the overall coverage of the dye? e.g. will it look different in the already dyed parts, or fade quicker?
Any help?
