Advantages: Works a bit
Disadvantages: Doesn't fully work
Spots at 34 are really, really annoying! I never know whether to purchase anti-aging products for my face (which tend to be rather rich and greasy on skin) or whether I should buy things that wage a war on my zits (which tend to dry out the skin). All in all it's hard pleasing all my fizog!
However the past couple of weeks I have had a break out of zits. Particularly around my jaw line and just the other day I had a huge stubborn black head on my chin to boot (nothing would remove it). My spots are yellow with heads on and a couple of angry red boily things and this for me I know is hormonal cos they arrived when I was due my monthly visit!
Now at 34 I expect facial issues but spots are something I always thought I'd be past by now and with them I feel dirty and grimy and of course unattractive. They're hard to cure as well particularly when your a make up addict like me and we all know that make up 'feeds' spots and makes them 10 times worse! So I decided that for a bit I need to leave off my usual lotions and potions and to deliberately target this problem and to be fair it's not just my face that is spitting grease up all the time and getting congested. Not all all! My body has joined in too! Like I say though I think it's hormonal but whatever it is, to me, it's simply not acceptable and I won't take it lying down lol!
So off I went to Boots to get a few products to use to help me get rid of the problem. I'm not interested in using spot treatments all the time so I'm not looking for prevention (I want to go back to using anti-aging facial products asap), I'm simply looking for a cure and for products I can sit aside and wait for problems to arise before using them again! L'Oreal is a brand name I know and I trust so I actually purchased a few products from their spot busting range and this is one of them.
The Packaging.....
It came in a light blue box which I threw away to be honest with you but it clearly told me what it was and who it was by and then on the back told me about the product, size contact details for L'Oreal and that sort of thing. Nothing special about it and suitable for either a man or a woman buying it type of thing as it isn't directed at either sex. The 50ml bottle is silver and blue with a silver integrated push button dispenser at the top of it. On the front in white Writing I'm told it's L'Oreal, Paris, Dermo-Expertise, Pure Zone, Deep Control Anti-Imperfection Regulating Moisturiser which has Pore Target Technology For Action At The Heart Of Pores and that it contains Salicylic Acid and has confirmed effectiveness for healthier looking skin and there is a blue square pattern on the front as well. On the back of the bottle I'm once again told what it is and who it by, a bit about the product and the results I should expect, size is stated again and once again the contact details for L'Oreal are given. Again, like the box this is really suited for men or women due to the colour scheme in the main.
A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Bottle....
Perfectly hydrates the skin, fights and helps to prevent imperfections at the heart of the pores. Allows a concentration of active ingredients to be transported more deeply, to act where they are needed most, at the heart of the pores.
Results....
Instantly the skin feels smoother and shine is controlled. Day after day, the skin looks healthier. Skin has an improved texture and uniform complexion.
My Experience Using It...
Well the bottle is great the top part is as I said pump action and it clicks safely and easily on and off with a click to the side action. It pumps a little out at a time and when you do you are greeted with a light coloured almost gel like but not quite light blue lotion. It's glossy and not runny but not quite a cream either. It smells very sea fresh to me (best way of describing it lol). At first I thought it was floral but whatever it is it's again suitable for men and women to slap on their faces as it is unisex in my view smell wise.
Now a little of this goes a very long way indeed (making this very economical to use). It goes on smoothly if not slightly greasy (hence it feels like it goes a long way) and less is more when using this product. It absorbs almost immediately into the skin (if you don't use too much of it, which you really don't need to) and sometimes it really tingles on my face (but not always). I'm sure it's a cold feeling but it feels to my senses like it's burning me slightly but it's not an awful sensation and it passes in a few seconds. It doesn't irritate my skin too much and certainly no effects can be seen on my skin when it's happening or after the event.
Now I did say to not to use too much of it and the reason for this is if you do not only does it feel far to heavy and mask like on the skin and take an age to absorb but if you have to much product on and find yourself rubbing it in it crumbles into a blueish coloured cream and goes into clumps which is messy and doesn't feel very good at all. Using a little however you avoid this happening and through that method the product itself lasts ages as I said before.
Results....
Yes it hydrates skin a little and whilst it's on the skin it sort of feels more hydrated from the inside and is slightly smoother to the touch on the outside. It loses it's initial smell completely and there is no colouring on the skin of course. Skin is mattified so it appears less shiny (as promised) though I personally don't use this and then apply make up over the top even though this is a moisturiser as that doesn't really make any sense to me. Why would I try to penetrate my pores with this and let my make up get in there too along with it after-all? lol So for me I use this morning and night whilst I need to.
The results are minimal with this. I find it is useful on a 'naked' face as it seems to close up my open pores slightly, make my skin appear smooth and clean with no visible greasy patches on display (and my t-zone takes a back seat for a while) but no good to me under make up in m view for the reason I've mentioned already. In the long term my skin really isn't visibly any better texture wise but no new spots have turned up to be fair to it whilst I have been using it though if you already have a spot this doesn't 'cure' it instantly (or even in a couple of days, though it goes in it's usual own time). The results really are minimal and although it works in a couple of aspects this for me isn't a convenient product to use as I can't use my usual moisturiser etc with it and it isn't an instant fixer it takes time to get results with (although L'oreal do point this out in the small print lol).
Recommended? Well as I have pointed out it works a bit but I'm not keen on the whole clogging thing on my face if I get over eager with it and it doesn't give my skin anything but some spot control (if you can say that) so for me it's a no no but if all your concerned with is spots on your face and nothing else this may be worth a go if you can just get used to using this every day!
I purchased mine in Boots for £4.99.
Summary: Not brill but it isn't rubbish either, it's just not for me!

- 17/01/09 I tried L'Oreal too and haven't worked for me, it seems that their products are really not "my friends". I know people that swore by them, so it depends on the person. For me, they make my skin worse then before, always did.
Excellent review, nominated X |
