Advantages: Effectively fixes hair and delivers a pleasant floral aroma

Disadvantages: The price

I am very fussy when it comes to my hair as every strand has to be in place and whilst during the 80's I favoured a stiff hairstyle, which simply wouldn't budge, I now prefer a subtle appearance with softer hair. For as long as I can remember I had been using Boots own brand hair spray, which would firmly hold my hair, but I wanted a product that would offer my locks a silky and glossy appearance. When browsing in Boots several months ago I found within the L'Oreal Studio range a Silk and Gloss Fixing Hairspray and this review discusses my experience with using it.

I have fixed feelings about L'Oreal products as I've had poor experiences with some of them, so I was a little apprehensive as to whether this product would actually live up to its claims. However, the blurb on the front of the metal canister states that due to the silk micro-fibres my hair would shine and be silky to the touch. I was also attracted to the fact that the spray offers extra strength, which is an absolute essential for me, particularly as my hair is very thick and long and can easily fall out of place with some brands of hairspray.

We are provided with 250 ml of product in a rather eye-catching silver coloured metal can and I had to break the cerise coloured seal on the upper section prior to using. The aerosol spray can be used on either dry or dampened hair with particular attention being focused on the roots. I always worry when using new hair sprays, as I've used many in the past that would leave white patches on my hair together with tiny unsightly globules. However, the spray dispenses in a fine mist and causes neither of the afore-mentioned problems and as a result, enables me to set my style with great ease whilst using very little spray. An extremely favourable point that I noticed with this spray is the aroma and unlike other brands I've used, it offered a delicately floral scent. However, this was only evident within a few minutes of spraying, which I was pleased about as I didn't want its aroma masking out my Estee Lauder Beautiful Eau De Parfum.

Whilst I would previously tie my long hair back into a simple ponytail I am now trying to be a little more creative with my styles and this hair spray enables my hair to stay in place from morning until I am ready to brush it out in the evening. The claim of leaving my looking hair shiny and silky to the touch isn't quite true as although there is a little shine I cannot admit to the texture of my hair being any different to what it was prior to me applying the spray. The spray easily brushes out of my hair without leaving any sticky residue or dryness. The container can be recycled once empty.

If I were to rate this product solely on its' performance it would receive 5 stars from me, but due to the price of £3.69, which is current at the time of writing from the Boots website, I can only give it 4. L'Oreal Studio Silk and Gloss is an effective product, but you are paying for the name and if I am honest, Boots own make is almost as good at a fraction of the price. I cannot state that I would buy this product again unless they slashed the price.

I hope you found my review useful and thank you for reading.

Summary: A good hair spray from L'Oreal
