Advantages: Looks really fresh and pretty.

Disadvantages: Doesn't last as it says for 16 hours.

As I have got that little bit older and entered the decade of change which is now coming to a close-the 40s- I have noticed that my needs in a foundation make up have changed from when I was a fresh faced 20 something.

Then I would use make up just to make me look like I had some colour to my face, as being quite pale people used to say I looked ill! Now it is more a matter of hiding imperfections, marks, and a few developing craters. No- seriously I haven't got those, and luckily not too many lines either, as I have never smoked, but I do need something with a good coverage to give my skin a nice overall look.

I used to use Bourjois make up, and still do use their eye shadows and blushers, but I have never really found a make up as good as the one I am reviewing today called Infallible.

L'oreal make several foundations for different ages and skin types and these range from Age Re-Perfect, heavily advertised by Jane Fonda, for the mature skin, and True Match which is more for the under 50s and is a light foundation not really suitable for skin like mine. The Infallible foundation appealed to me as an alternative to the Visible Lift which I have also used and found to be very good.

The foundation is available in most good chemists and retails for £10.49 but is often on offer for £7.49. The shade I buy is called Natural Rose which is a very pretty pale shade but it has a pinky glow to it. Vanilla is also a lovely shade as well and if I choose that one I usually mix it with a light diffusing lotion like Revlon Skinlights (sadly now discontinued) as it brings out the pink tones. Both are lovely on pale to medium skins which many of us "English roses" are!

The foundation is easy to apply. I usually cleanse my face first using a good cleanser, and I then apply Korres wild rose moisturiser which I leave on for a few minutes. Then I apply the foundation to my face concentrating mainly on the t zone and around the nose area where I have the most blemishes. Then I blend it outwards to avoid that line around the chin. The product applies really easily and is really excellent at covering up anything you want to hide. It doesn't need powder either as it dries to a natural matt finish. I usually just apply some blusher to my cheeks to make me look a bit healthier. I also use it as a base for eye shadow, letting it dry for a few minutes if I am applying powdered ones. You can also buy the matching concealer in the range which really does work well with it, but you don't need to as the product works well on its own.

It claims to look good for up to 16 hours and it actually does look good for a few hours- but not 16. It looks natural as well which means it doesn't have that mask look to it. It also doesn't have any line around the neck, although it might if you chose a shade which was too dark for your skin tone. I must confess I actually discovered a trick which works but highlights the fact that the make up really doesn't last 16 hours. It also comes in a compact form which I bought to see if was as good. It was more like a solid powder than anything and I bought the vanilla shade. I now use this to touch up the makeup if I am going anywhere and want to make sure my blemishes are covered. It works perfectly but of course shoots to pieces the claim that it lasts 16 hours. It might on a 30 something model with flawless skin but not me!

The bottle itself is made from glass and it has a pump dispenser which helps to control the amount you use really well, and the product looks good on the dressing table. It would be heavy to carry in your handbag though. It has an SPF of 15 which I really like as both my parents have had skin cancer.

I think this product would suit all skin types, but not teenage acne prone skin, as I think it is too moisturising, and would almost certainly aggravate spots. To to be honest I think that age would benefit from a few years of getting away with lighter more youthful looks.

So in conclusion I would say it does look lovely and is perfect for creating that "English Rose" healthy look. As a foundation it is the best I have ever found- but it doesn't last 16 hours it really needs to be topped up, or as I do gone over with the compact version.

Summary: A lovely make up but you'll need to touch up.

This sounds like something I could do with.

That's very sneaky of them to bring out a compact version - I bet a lot of people need touch ups!
