Advantages: Easy to apply, smells good, Softens skin
Disadvantages: Not very 'natural' looking, if used as directed can leave lines in eyebrow & hairline areas, A little expensive
Women don?t fully hold the monopoly when it comes to wanting a natural golden tan without having to risk getting skin cancer or premature ageing. As a pale-skinned man with a summer ball to attend in a few weeks I thought healthy glowing skin would flatter my tuxedo perfectly. I can only ever remember using a self tanning product many years ago and although it was a cheaper product the results were pretty good. With this in mind I thought that the products available today would all be excellent due to product development and fine tuning and I decided to go with a product with a recognised name. To me Loreal is usually a name that equal quality and reliability and the packaging was also appealing; looking modern in a see-through tube enabling you to see the actual tanning gel. Having read the information on the tube I was confident that I could happily use the product due to my fair, pale complextion. It cost about £10 for 150ml at Boots for me but I assume that it?s widely available elsewhere. I thought that I would use it on my face just for starters and first exfoliated to ensure my skin was clean and fresh. I applied what I thought was a conservative amount and spread it over my face evenly as directed. Then waited????After a couple of hours I had started to gain colour, so much so that my housemate actually commented ?god your tanned!, but this was at night under artificial light. By the next morning I looked like I had gained a life-time membership to the ?perma-tan? club. After one, yes ONE application I was far more tangerine than I would have liked. Another problem that I have with the product is it clearly states that you should avoid the eyebrow & hairline areas but as I discovered when I did this I was left with clearly visible lines between where the tanning gel was applied and the white areas of under my eye brows (and they are not particularly fair eye brows) and my hair line. To combat this ridiculous ?look? I aga
in applied a small amount of gel to these areas to correct this but found that I had to go against the instructions to achieve this. Yet another problem that I discovered was that the tanning gel also discoloured blocked pores in my skin, thus turning them into blackheads, which is not an attractive look at all. Oh and yes, one more thing, don?t use white towels for a few days after applying this stuff cos they will develop a tan also! After one application, spending £10, looking ?glowing? for about 5 days before my skin faded and being referred to as David Dickinson, I have decided that I shall never use this product again. Having said all that, there are some good points regarding this product. It is easy to apply and you don?t need to use a lot of it to get results so it should last quite a while if you should choose to continue using it! It has a pleasant scent. It is only very slightly sticky/greasy, absorbed into the skin well and quick drying. It also makes the skin feel smooth as the Loreal claim.
