We've all seen the advert, Andie Macdowell with her impossibly unlined face almost grunting with the effort of producing a line that L'Oreal Revitalift Deep Set Wrinkle Cream can soften. Call me a cynic but I find myself wondering how the lovely Ms Macdowell can be so unlined in her forties, I suspect this cream is not the real reason. (Disclaimer: Tracy_1127 is not implying surgery or botox is the real reason for Andie Macdowell's unlined skin!)
Not convinced but a sucker for any product that claims it will be of use to my 35 year old skin I decided to purchase some. I bought mine on ebay for £5.99 but I think it's normally about £11.99.
The product arrived swiftly and I decided to use it that day. The box has a picture of the cream container on the front and tells us it contains Pro-Retinol A (vitamin A) and Fibro-Plastyl (haven't got the faintest) and has SPF15 UV Protection. It claims to "restore moisture, reinforce the skin, reduce deep set wrinkles and leave the skin rejuvenated and firmer".
The container is a pump action cylinder, you twist the top to open it and then press down to get some cream out. Each pump is a tiny amount and I found I needed three for my face and neck. The cream is beige in colour and has that slight chemical whiff that all creams containing Pro Retinol A seem to have.
This is where it gets interesting. The sneaky L'Oreal crew seem to have taken a few different products and mixed them into this concoction. Obviously you have the cream aspect but this is alongside shimmery light reflecting particles and a mascogenic effect like Clarins Flash Balm or Gale Haymans Face Lift In A Bottle. All in one cream. I should like it shouldn't I?
I was initally shocked at all these different attempts to reduce wrinkles in one cream, I like to decide if I'm going to wear light reflecting products or the face mask effect of mascogenic type products so I was very surprised by this. I've thought for a while that someone should make a product that combines every method known to man to reduce wrinkles and yet here I was with it now on my face wondering if I'd been wrong to wish for such a thing.
The problem was I could see instantly the light reflecting effect just attracts the eye away from the lines because it makes the face shimmer. It doesn't reduce the wrinkles at all and that isn't what it promised. Also the mascogenic ingredient is fine for a quick fix after a heavy night but I find it leaves a build up of residue on the skin rather like the glue of primary school that we all used to spread on our hands then peel off. I've had to exfoliate every day after using this just to get it off!
Under foundation the shimmery effect can still be seen, add powder to that however and it's gone. So once you get your face on the product loses some of its powers. Use it daily and check any deep wrinkles after a few weeks without the cream on and nothing has changed. There are actually pictures on the side of the box that allegedly demonstrate how much of a difference we can expect with this product. I notice the skin on the "after" result is shimmery though, could it be even in photos the shimmery light reflecting aspect draws our eyes away from the problem?
Add to those issues the fact you need so much to treat the face and neck and the fact it isn't very moisturising for us folk with dry skin and you don't have a very successful product! And firmer skin? Can't say I noticed a difference in this respect.
I can't recommend this even though as a concept it has everything you need in one cream. I don't want to wear mascogenic products every day of the week, nor do I want a shiny face every day so people start to wonder if I'm permanently "glowing" and take those two elements away and you're left with a basic low percent Pro Retinol A cream.
I only have a couple of persistant, deeper than the rest lines at the moment so I'm not overly worried this didn't work well and will continue my quest for the perfect product. I honestly don't recommend this to anyone, it's a bit of a cheat to use light reflecting properties to make us think it's working on our lines and I don't want to peel off the left over mascogenic product every day after I've washed my face. Not a success.
