Advantages: Job Finder, Classifieds, Arts Section

Disadvantages: Lack of International News, Price

The Belfast Telegraph is the main regional newspaper for Northern Ireland. It is a broadsheet paper, giving comprehensive, relatively unbiased, coverage of what is happening day to day in Northern Ireland. You can find out all of the latest sport and political news and it also has a good classifieds section.
One of the best features of the Belfast Telegraph is the Job Finder, which comes out every Monday. Due to the strict anti-sectarian rules when it comes to advertising jobs, all jobs being advertised must be available to both communities. Because the telegraph is seen as neutral it has become the popular choice for companies wanting to advertise their job openings. It therefore has a very comprehensive list of all the best jobs on offer in Northern Ireland. It is also very good for the arts printing a detailed list of all the theatrical and social events occurring during the week every Thursday. However the Belfast Telegraph is still only a regional paper and doesn’t really try to cover much international news. Even fairly important international events may only have a paragraph or two.
The price of the telegraph also seems to be a little high for the amount of coverage you get. For many years the Belfast Telegraph was sold for a very reasonable 28p. Then about 2 years ago they announced that it was going to rise to 30p. Since then the price of the telegraph has risen, mostly un-announced, to 40p. You may think that 40p is an acceptable price for a paper if it is any good, but if you regularly read the Belfast Telegraph, then you will share my opinion that 40p is a bit steep. I am not saying that the telegraph is a bad paper, but for a 30% rise in price you would expect a rise in quality or quantity. In my opinion the paper is as good as it always was, but no better, and is it my imagination, or has it been getting thinner?
So if you are visiting Northern Ireland for business or pleasure and are looking for a good newspaper, th
en the Belfast Telegraph is a good choice, but do not expect much more than local news.

the tele is not neutral - it is a unionist paper with very anti-catholic views. it mis-reporting on west belfast man sean muiregan was wrong. they had him down as a ira man visiting isreal. he was actually a peace activist with no links to the ira. that's him a loyalist target now. when i emailed the reporter responsible they refused to reply to my complaint. the sister paper sunday life is also a piece of trash. it should be renamed - johnny adair news.
