Being a local this news paper can be a good help and sometimes just a good read letting me know whats going on in leicester.
The Leicester Mercury was one of the first things I turned to when I first moved to Leicestershire. It not only covers events in the city, but also in the county. The paper has two editions, one for the city centre and one for the county including more relavent information respectively. There are disadvantages for the average reader in that the paper is published daily, meaning that if you want to read evey single section then you have to buy it every day. However the content is good, covering property, local news, national new that is relavent to the area, classifieds, jobs and numerous other things. The standard of the writing is excellent and everything that you would want to hear about is generally covered. Although there is generally not a huge amount of national news, it is generally accepted that the Mercury is an addition to the daily national paper. It contains virtually all you need to know about this county and it's main city, plus tidbits from all around. The paper is well worth a read, if you want it daily or only for ocassional reading, for entertainment of specifics. This paper is one of the best around and arguably the best in the area It's up to the individual to decide.
The Leicester Mercury is outrightly one of the best regional paper's around. I think it actually won award once for being the best regional papers. Having lived in Leicester my whole life I always feel much more informed when I can be bothered to read the paper. The Leicester Mercury is dedicated to providing news to its local community, since Leicester boasts of having one of the largest Asian populations in the UK it also prints an Asian edition of the paper. The City Edition is committed in bringing updating locals on all the latest information with a good deal of coverage on the feelings and thoughts of the local community. The paper also puts its readers into focus on 'World News' although this usually has a 'British' angle rather than a 'World' one. The Asian Edition is solely dedicated to the Asian cummunity and covers a great depth of information to please its highly diverse population. The scope of the news in general is well written. The format and layout of the paper is professional with an almost informal touch in its use of colour. This is one of its greatest appeals. At the price of just 27p I personally think its a great way to get 'informed' about issues concerning the community of Leicester. And it also regularly features the Workplace which is a must if your looking for a job!
