Advantages: Good local newspaper.

If you live in or around Nottingham then you will certainly be aware of the Nottingham Evening Post.
Published six days of the week this really is the main local newspaper for this area. The paper costs 29p (home delivered copies are 24p) and is published in a tabloid format. There is some colour in the paper but it is primarily a traditional black and white paper.
The paper has an excellent news reporting team and is able to cover almost any story that is happening in the area. The paper is also very keen on photographs and has a small army of available photographers all around the county, that are able to attend local events. A lot of these photographers are freelance, but this does allow the paper to cover a wide area without having the overheads of a large pool of staff.
Each day the paper has a number of specialist sections and these are:
Monday: Bygones, Post Jobs Extra and Extra Sports pages.
Tuesday: Business Post and Post readers Offers.
Wednesday: Post Jobs and Midweek Motoring.
Thursday: Property Guide and Readers Holidays.
Friday: Seven52 (What’s on) and Motoring Post.
Saturday: Post Weekend and Select A Job.
These different sections keep the paper interesting and also allow you to choose to buy particular days if you are looking for something specific. The jobs section on a Wednesday is a particularly comprehensive section with all the major employers of the area advertising any vacancies.
As you would expect each day the paper carries a number of regular items such as television listings, horoscopes, letters, weather, crosswords, editorial, business and most days there is a competition of some kind. There is of course a large classifieds section and the Evening Post is renown for being able to sell almost anything very quickly.
There is a very good sports section and as well as covering all the major sports and teams in the area there is al
so a lot of good reporting of minority sports and amateur clubs. On Saturdays (during the football season) there is also an additional paper published and this is the Football Post. This paper carries match reports from all the major local clubs plus a full listings of the results from the day’s Premiership and Football League matches.

This site is very fast to access and easy to navigate and complements the daily paper very well.
As well as being supplied to almost newsagents in the county there are traditional street vendors that sell the Evening Post throughout the city centre. Nottingham would seem a very strange place without this very good daily evening paper.

Susann - 22/02/03 Yes - it's a real personality in the area. A lot of people are still very upset about the loss of the beautiful old Evening Post building (pulled down to make yet another multiplex and restaurant complex when the paper moved to new premises). I agree it can be quite sensationalist and sometimes unbalanced. I buy it occasionally for the small ads but if it's around the office I always have a quick flick through the main story. One thing that I don't hear so often now is the old 'Post, post, 'Evening Post' , 'Evvvvvening Post!' cry of the street vendors - have they been told to keep quiet - they were a real feature of the city! |
