We used to get the Sheffield star quite often in the past however we hardly ever get it now unless there is something specific we want that's in the paper.

The price of the paper over the years has steadily been creeping up while the quality has gone down. The paper carries hardly any new stories and often gets little bits of information wrong. The paper nowadays also seems a lot thinner than it used too.

The problem the newspaper has got is the news stories have already been reported by local news on tv and any other information can be found quicker on the sheffield forum (although on here you have to be careful to find out whats true and what isn't). This means that the newspaper stories are often old news.

Another problem the paper has is that although they produce a jobs section on a thursday these jobs can already be found at the job centre or online on job sites.

One part that does annoy me is the sports section. Here in Sheffield we have a great variety of sports apart from football. We have basketball, ice hockey, rugby, speedway, athletics, swimming etc. All the star seems to report on in football. I've seen other local papers with big football clubs in their town that offer a more varied sports section.

The classifieds and announcements are expensive. I'm not sure on the exact prices but I know in the past everyone used to have a mention in the star if it was a special birthday, birth or occasion. Nowadays no-one bothers because of two resons one the price and two because no-one gets the paper any more.

I think the sheffield star has lost it's way. It faces some difficult problems such as competition against news stories on the internet.
