CrossStitcher Magazine
by NUDUL
Up until last year I used to purchase this magazine on a regular basis. It is available at most supermarkets as well as places like WH Smith's and Hobbycraft. It cost just under £5 a month and has 13 issues a year. The magazine also offers yearly subscriptions for around £40.
The magazine has certain features every month ... including readers letters (which you receive a free gift for if your letter is printed), a page of people looking for kits/charts/threads or giving them away and another page of people who are looking to find penpals around the world. The magazine always has a free gift which is generally a free cross stitch kit to start as soon as you get home but sometimes it will have extra bits to make up things such as bookmarks, or mirror cases, other free gifts have included sets of embroidery needles, free charts books and calendars.
The magazine contains a mixture of charts on different topics from ones that are small enough to make a gift tag or card to others that can be finished in a variety of ways such as mounted on a canvas to making bags or doorstops out of them. The chart always contains a colour key using DMC and Anchor thread codes, as well as finishing instructions, and time taken to make the project up.
There is also now a section on how to make things for the home, a 'make do and mend' type of approach which some readers think detracts from the cross stitch as it is more hand sewing or machine sewing but if you like to do a mixture then this is the perfect magazine for you. Cross Stitch Crazy Magazine
by NUDUL
Cross Stitch Crazy is a magazine crammed with charts and information relevant to both new and experienced cross stitchers young and old.
It comes out once a month and is available across the UK from places like WH Smiths and Tesco's as well as many local/independent paper shops. It costs £3.75 a month but I have been ... subscribing now for more than 12 months and pay only £8.99 a quarter so save on the cover price. It is also possible to pay for yearly subscriptions and gift subscriptions that are delivered directly to your door just before the issue is released in the shops.
Each issue comes with a free gift that ranges from a mini kit (perfect if you've never tried cross stitch before as they contain everything you need to get started) to diaries and chart booklets and thread packs. Each issue also includes a letters page, crazy angels who answer readers cries for help, from finding kits and charts to help with finishing tips, a readers tips page, best buys for the month, competitions, a crossword and of course the many charts.
The charts Cross Stitch Crazy include come from many designers and are commissioned especially for the magazine. They include small 'quick stitches' useful for cards/gift tags and the like up to large charts that can be made into cushions or framed. Each chart includes a list of threads needed in both DMC and Anchor, it has the size and type of fabric needed (and type of needle to use with the fabric) any other materials needed to finish the piece and the average time it should take to complete it. The charts also come with a variety of finishing ideas and instructions on how to make them up. There is also a beginners guide in each magazine, a list of stockists and online stores as well as a number of other articles. Read the complete review |

Love It!
by catrocks03
I'm your typical magazine lover but often feel guilty spending the price of a dinner for a magazine that seemingly contains more pages of glossy ads than actual articles. This, thankfully, is not the case with my favourite magazine- Love It!. At just 68p its hardly breaking the bank and is packed with intresting articles.
I love ... the real life stories, they cover intresting, comical and the more serious stuff but each one keeps you gripped. Im sure Im not the only one who finds myself popping out every Tuesday to get a copy. I'm also sure Im not the only one who has read it within a few hours. Its definitly a "ok, one more page magazine"!
Audience wise I'd reccomend it to women of all ages although Im sure some men would have a sneak peek too. People who have leafed through my copies range from my boyfriend, my teenage cousin and my Grandmother.
So if your intrested give it a read, at 68p its not like you've got much to lose! Read the complete review |
