Advantages: Promote's early language skill's

Disadvantages: None!

I am a self pronounced bookworm and so will my son if I have any say in the matter. before he was even born I was busy collecting books for him in anticipation of the joy of reading them to him and one day listening to those first haltingly cute word's that he will one day say. I love reading, positvely adore it. I can alway's be found with my head in a book. When I was pregnant people would say 'you won't have time for that when baby is here!! Well perhap's I don't read as often, but I DO still read, snatched pages here and there, I couldnt live without my book's.

Beside's I now read an awful lot of baby book's, so in a roundabout manner I am reading more!! Alex at nine months has a bookcase full of book's. Some hardbacked toddler proof one's he can play with now and other's are precious copies of fairy tale's that I read to him at night. I even have listening tape's with accompanying book's for when he is older.

You can never start a child reading too soon is my motto. Altough Alex dosent read yet (of course !!) and hasnt really a clue what he is doing, he mimic's me and hold's a book as though he is reading it! Which I feel is a positive start. he enjoy's storytime, especially when I put on the funny noises of the character's in the story. The key I feel is to get them interested and keep them interested. Bright, colourful book's, books's that squeak. We even have an interactive clothe book with 'Woof' the dog who can be moved from page to page, fed, bathed and put to bed. It's a great way to encourage very young children.

I am a member of a children's book club as well, who offer very good discount's on high street prices and offer a range of book's the like's of which I have yet to see in the high street. So come on, it only need take ten minute's out of your day to read to your child, you don't need to
forfeit the tv and playstation totally!!

I agree completely, babies should be introduced to books and stories early. Good op :-)
