Advantages: well set out, local adverts

Disadvantages: none

Diamond Freeads is a weekly newspaper that allows you to sell virtually anything free of charge.

This is published all over England in regional editions. The majority of adverts in our Thames Valley edition are within a 30 mile radius, when you find what you're after it should be reasonably local.

For buyers the paper is very well laid out, making it easy to find the item. There are a series of main categories such as transport, household, family, services etc. Within each of the main headings a subsection allows for quick reference. The adverts in each are set out alphabetically. There's also a complete listing of headings on the back page. Beside the advert's phone number they also publish the town name, very usefull as a town phone code could also cover many districts. You can also place a free wanted advert under the relevant section, placed in the same way as sellers ads.

For sellers it is so easy to place that advert, either email, phone or fax it over. Private sellers pay no fee, unless it's pets which are charged at £10 a week. Simply quote the section, whether offered or wanted, the text, phone number and town name. Repeat adverts are also free. As a safeguard cars for sale must be accompanied by a BT / cable phone number rather than mobile number only. They also restrict the number of car adverts per person per year to stop those traders who pose as private vendors.

We've bought and sold many items with the Freeads over the years with no problems at all. Priced at £1.10, stocked at most newsagents this really is worth a read.
