Advantages: Cheap, worthwhile free gifts

Disadvantages: Not many pages

Amateur Gardening looks like it might be a bit on the boring side, as it's not as thick and glossy as some other magazines, but it's fine, in my opinion.

It's good for current news in gardening in the UK - the news section is good - details of flower shows, garden openings, and new products.
I also find the "This week in your garden" section invaluable - timely reminders of jobs to do. If you live in the North, though, you usually have to remember to wait a week or two.
There's a regular "Pestwatch" feature, which I have found helpful, and Charlie Dimmock offers good common sense advice.
As with any gardening magazine, there's bound to be some parts of you're not too bothered about, say if you have no lawn, no fruit trees, but overall I think this is a good buy for gardeners in general.

The magazine is very cheap, and there are often free packets of seeds, which makes it almost seem like you're getting the magazine free. I've planted seeds from about 3 of these packets this year, and all of them have been successful, so no complaints there.

The free seeds are good, although I don't always use them. They make good gifts to send in cards though.
