Advantages: Good stories and puzzles.
Disadvantages: Tend to spread articles over two pages at a time.
I have been buying My Daughter Lily the Barbie magazine for a few months now. The magazine normally contains about thirty six pages and costs £1.35. But is it good value for money? I am not too impressed with the first two pages, where the contents of the magazine are spread out over two whole pages.I feel it is not neccessary to use two pages for this and its obviously done to fill out the magazine itself. On the next page there is a dear Barbie section, where children can be wished Happy Birthday or send in photos of themselves to be printed in the magazine. Following this there is a whole page used for a Johnny Bravo advert. Next is a story about Barbie and Her friend Skipper who are going to the hairdresser to have hair extentions put in their hair.It is quite an interesting story that kept Lily's attention well. On the spot the difference page you have to find six differences between the two pictures, this is relatively easy for a youngish child to work out. Set out on two more pages there are outfits which you have to match to the Dolls shown. Two whole pages again to show you how to make a Tiara,Lily did find the instructions and pictures clear enough to make a lovely one of Her own. Theres a two page pull out poster of Barbie and Her friends, followed by another puzzle where you have to match up two identical items. A competition is available to enter,in this issue its to win Lip Gloss Maker Kit.Just right for little Girls. Two pages to colour in,with another puzzle, then more advertising and finishing off with a story. You also get a free Barbie Flower Hair Clip with this magazine and as parents know this is always a clever tatic to attract the sale of a child's magazine. Although this magazine sounds like it is packed with stories and activities, they do seem to like spreading an item over two pages. Out of the thirty six pages, I have counted the unnec
cessary use of ten of those pages. So I do not believe that you are getting value for your money. All these types of magazines are way over priced, considering the contents they actually contain. However the puzzles were entertaining in that they kept Lily's mind active while She worked them out. She also enjoyed the colouring in pages and the stories were interesting to Her too. Will I continue buying this magazine? Yes,because Lily enjoys the content of this magazine and looks forward to each issue.
