Advantages: Packed with news and features
Disadvantages: Much of what's featured is beyond most people's price range
Because this magazine is from the BBC, it often has articles which are linked to TV programmes such as Antiques Roadshow, which means it's for the popular end of the market. It's not boring and it's a good read. This magazine is not for the DIY enthusiast; it mainly features items that can be bought rather than made, and the whole thing is aimed at the higher end of the market than, say Real Homes or Your Homes. But there should be things of interest to anyone interested in homemaking or collecting antiques. There are interiors of historical and stately homes, and if you are interested in the historical side of things (rather than just making money from antiques), this will definitely be of interest. There's also the usual showcase houses, (new and old) immaculately designed and presented, with their owners talking about them. For most of us, just something to long that we had the money? There is a small section on gardening, and it contains some very useful advice on collecting antiques. And there's not TOO many of those Franklin Mint adverts! There's a good roundup of current events (exhibitions, fairs) relating to art, gardening, and so on. Watch out for the cover-mounted free gifts - the July 2000 issue had an excellent classical CD with it, which was easily worth the price of the magazine.

Feathers - 11/09/00 I like this mag and I don't even have my own home! If you like costume dramas you should keep an eye on this magazine as it often does behind-the-scenes articles. |
