Advantages: quality read at nice price

Disadvantages: special editions can be hard to get hold of!

I'm not a big fan of comics...probably because as a parent I'm the one that gets to fork out two or three quid for a few measley pages of naff storys and advertising! however there is one exception to every rule - and The Beano is it!!!

Every Thursday my eight year old son is overcome with an unfathomable desire to go shopping, every Thurday I fall for it and every Thursday he sneaks his favourite comic into my shopping trolley!!! If it was any other comic he wouldn't get away with it - but for The Beano I'm prepared to make an exception!

For starters The Beano is in my price bracket!!! - what else can you pull off the shelf for 52p??? Perhaps more importantly it's creative, amusing and buys me a bit of peace and quiet! Okay so it does still contain adverts, but for that price I guess we don't mind putting up with them!

The only down side to The Beano is when they bring out special editions - the millenium edition was a prime example!! That Thursday I got draged shopping and the shelves were bare! The Beano has always been, and probably always will be!, highly collectable! I guess it's because it's a name we've all grown up with and have fond memorys of!
