Advantages: Cheap, shocking and always diverse in content and coverage.
Disadvantages: Generally too many teleporn adverts in the back.
I don't want to write a thousand words about this magazine. There is plenty to read about within. Basically it's a monthly £3.30 monolith of the strange and bizarre and if you're into that kind of thing will put a smile on your face and a cringe in your soul.
Personally, I think its one of the UK's best and brightest alternative magazines. It takes the scariest, weirdest, most extreme, most perverse, and funniest tales of the world and combines it into a smart, well-designed and informative read. And if you dig it for the softcore pornography alone, its not half bad either, with a specially sealed paper-pamplet at the pack for all your erotic salivation.
I think I've been reading this for about 3 years now, still not subscribed (although I'm slowly liking to the idea), but am fascinated by the content within. I've read tales of heroin porn stars, midgets who breathe fire, tokyo sex club guides, clown violence, and towns that have gone mad - all in the last 3 months alone.
From a psychological perspective I think this magazine could encourage ideas for a youngster (perhaps 16+), and whilst that could be both a good and bad thing, it pushes the envelope for all who read it. Each month one can generally expect a rollercoaster of a read, opening perhaps with a disgusting collection of imagery involving crocodile-meets-child, worlds smallest person, facial growths, giant feet and skydiving gone amok, moving to the sublime drug-induced drawings of our local artists, then onto articles and interviews, followed by reviews of great music, film & books, and then a final touch of erotica to finish off the hour of power if the train is your place of enlightenment.
Do enjoy yourself when buying this magazine, I believe its worth every penny, and if it makes you gag, makes your partner gag you, or makes your friends gag it probably has created the desired effect. If you find yourself spending a special 20 minutes alone it may also have had the desired effect. Either way, if you still live with parents or hang out with vanilla types, be wary where you leave this read. You may have a few questions to answer.
If you're interested in the weird & bizarre, go buy it now, because it does exactly what it says on the tin.
Summary: Go buy it for the wow-factor, you won't be dissapointed. 5/5

the_oracle123 - 20/10/06 Pretty good review but perhaps not enough info about the magazine itself - I'm not sure who it's targeted at. I understand that it's about weird things, but is that the whole point of it? I reckon that giving more details about the format and the content would make this a definite VU. |
