Advantages: Makes learning fun

Last week my son aged 4 was feeling very fed up as he wasn't well and couldn't go to school. I phoned my husband at work and asked him to bring home a magazine to cheer Christopher up. He came home with "Bob the Builder", and although Christopher wasn't in the mood to do any of the colouring or activities then, he soon started smiling when he saw the free gifts.

This month you get four cardboard masks, of Bob, Wendy, Pilchard and Spud. All you have to do is press them out from the cardboard surround then stick a straw or lolly stick on the bottom for your child to hold. My two had lots of fun pretending to be the characters!

There are stories to read, colouring, counting games and a "spot the difference" page in this month's issue. If you have a young Bob fan in your family, I'm sure they'd get a lot of enjoyment from this magazine.

At the back of the magazine there is a page where you can order all sorts of Bob merchandise; the prices seem to be the same as you would pay in the shops but there is a £2.95 delivery charge. It has to be worth it at this time of year to avoid the hordes of Christmas shoppers!

There's a website where you can purchase lots more "Bob stuff", as well as other popular children's characters. It is as follows: www.shop4toys.co.uk
