Ok lets get things into perspective here. If you want a gay newspaper, you will get hold of a copy of The Pink Paper. If you want a porn magazine, well you might consider this as its free, and you don't feel so much of a perv flick through its pages. However I would say that I use it more as a scene guide than anything else. If I make a return visit to my Brighton home town, I look for an up-to-date copy of Boyz to find out what is going on. And I would say that with out doubt it is this comprehensive listing, and weekly update that makes the magazine useful if not essential for travellers. Ok so it has loads of contact numbers, smutty stories & pictures, an agony uncle, music and movie news, but how many people take those reviews seriously? If you want a good read? Look elsewhere. If you want to find a 'friend'try here. If you want to find out what is going on up and down the country, look no further.
All I have to say is 'Flash the Flesh'. i could just leave it there but between you and me, that would be quite boring. I wouldn't say that this was a gratuitous look at Gay U.k because that would make it sound like a bad thing. Unlike its more recent glossy counterparts, this isn't really one for the thinking person. Usually only available in shops in the main cities it isn't the most inconspicuous of magazines to buy. It is given away at most gay clubs though, so when somethings free you musn't grumble that much. It focuses mainly on gay events accross the country, big gay clubs and their nights and often vouchers/flyers for them. Its got reviews of new music and films which would appeal to those amoung us interested in gay anthemns or men with tight buns, but not mainstream. You can usually find a cover and interview with a b-list uk celeb like Lorraine Kelley or Dale Winton and good few pictures of people showing their rudey bits. All in all, a very specialised magazine in the respect i dont think it would interest straight people or lifes great thinkers. In saying that, this might not be a bad thing. If you have no shame and would buy it, or you're really bored in a club, then its always worth a trashy read (and oggle!!)
