Advantages: balanced views

Disadvantages: rumour generating, cost

"Broadcast" has long been the prefered industry publication for those interested in the television and radio industries. As a weekly publication distributed by publishing giant e-map, it has a wealth of financial backing and resources at its disposal. But as an industry magazine, how does it compare to others in its field?

In a nutshell, I would say pretty well...

Is has the advantage of being set out in newspaper format and is clearly laid out in easy-to-digest sections.

It give pretty well informed (and often well politically balanced) reviews of the current industry climate yet remains "readable" (ie -not dull!) Both my housemates (who are outside the industry) have been known to read my copy - endorsement indeed of the publications ability to pitch its articles at a decent level.

On the downside, Broadcast not especially useful for industry contacts and has been known to report industry remours as "news" -something which may, oneday, cost them dear. Also, at 2.50 per copy, it is worth doing what my housemates do and borrow someone elses'!

For those who are in broadcast TV and radio, or indeed those looking to enter the industry, I would certainly recommend Broadcast as a good "industry mag" starter for ten....
