Advantages: Easy to read guide, lots of gossip on my favourite shows, lots of interviews
Disadvantages: Price if you dont get it free from your cable company, does'nt have terrestrial channels showings in
The Cable guide is a monthly magazine that tells you what is on your cable for the month ahead. It cost's three pound fifty, but we get it free from the cable company as we have a package deal with them. You can also buy it from your local newsagents. We get our's delivered free about a week before the month is here, so I can plan which programmes I want to watch in the month ahead. It comes in a sealed wrapper, so it does'nt get wet in the delivery, and your local mr postman cant have a good read, which I used to do when i was a papergirl, way back. The guide is split into easy read sections, has a front row guide, and colour-coded listings. It also has a four section contents page, which comprises of- REGULARS This section of the magazine gives you the gossip from all your favourite programmes, such as ER, friends, Frasier, The odd couple,Simpsons, as well as interviews with a few of the actors in the series. You also get to read about a few documentories which will be coming on in the month ahead. There is also you monthly crossword, as well as a emails and letters page, where readers write in to find out about programmes that are coming on. You can have a moan about a programme, it's change of time, day, or find out when your favourite is coming back on. FILM GUIDE This is a complete guide to all the front row movies for the month ahead. The front row section is very clearly set out, telling you the title of a film, starring characters, age rating, and the length of the film. It also has a paragraph of what the film is like. It is very much like going into a video store and picking up the video to read what it is like. The is also a few double sections of interviews with major film stars, who are in films being shown within that month. LISTINGS GUIDE This is a day by day guide for the month, which is easily readable as it is split into times, so you glance a
t the time on the left and glance across the page in that section and see which programme you would prefer to watch, it saves you looking up and down for the different times of programmes. Each day is 4 pages long which is why the guide is almost 200 hundred pages long. Every film has an age rating and length and starring character, and some have a review of the film. Most programmes also have a review of the programme too. SPORTS GUIDE This sections tells you about the latest sports events for the month ahead, such as football, rugby, golf, swimming, skiing, and marathons, as well as interviews with the players and managers. I really enjoy this magazine, especially as I do get it free, it is a glossy mag, and I love to read the interviews and mark off which programmes I want to watch for the month ahead. I dont like the fact it doesnt tell you the terrestrial channels, so I have to go out and buy my weekly tv guide still, buy I can live with that, as it tells me more about the cable programmes than my weekly mag does.
