Is Closer the poor girls Heat?

There are endless celebrity magazines out there, all seemingly based on each other right down to the typeface and features inside. Is Closer any different?

Yes and no, on the one hand we have all the same features as any celeb magazine, who's been doing what, who's been wearing what and who's been in the news. So far so much the same, if you like celebrity magazines you're on safe ground, if not you'll be tearing your hair out at the drivel deemed reportable here!

It claims to be UK's number 1 celeb and real life mag, but they all say variations on that don't they?

On the other hand at least it doesn't copy Heat's typeface, layout and features as some other magazines blatantly do. It has a mix of celebrity and true life stories which sets it slightly apart from the usual Heat types. It would certainly pass the time having a read and there's plenty of features to keep the reader well occupied. Celebrity news and pictures take up a large section of the magazine, true life stories, fashion features, puzzles, recipies, diet tips and TV listings fill up the remainder. Many advertising pages too as in all glossies.

Lacks the sarky edge of Heat and is (predictably as it's its stock in trade) obsessed with the silly minutiae of Z listers but if you want bubblegum for the brain there's worse than this available!

Large format, very glossy and printed on decent paper, the photos are in colour throughout and the printing is off good quality. £1.80 per issue and available weekly at newsagents and supermarkets.

Summary: Silly but fun celebrity read
