Advantages: Great if you like celebrity news
Disadvantages: Lacks reality
I must admit I buy a lot of the magazines going. I know that sounds like a complete waste of money but when I am all settled for the night and as usual there is nothing on television I get out my magazines and have a bit read. The magazine that has recently caught my eye is closer. I had heard of this magazine and seen it in the shops in the past but I usually go for OK which has all of the celebrity gossip and I thought what's the point in getting closer as it will just be the same stories. I was right it was but never the less it was an ok read.
The front cover:
The front cover of the magazine is very bright and appealing it has all the main stories indicated here to get you interested in reading more.
The cost:
The magazine cost me £1.20. I think it was worth it as it is quite thick and of good quality.
The layout:
Closer has a few advertisements in for different new products; these range from beauty items to cars. It isn't over run with them though and I quite enjoy reading them to see what new products are available.
In a recent issue of closer it has been concentrating on the tragic story of jade goody and her terminal cancer a few pages has been dedicated to jade'' life. I found this very sad to read. Each issue the magazine is packed of celebrity real life stories.
A few pages into the magazine there is a section called closer to you. This section is where the readers can write in and express their views on certain news and articles that have been featured in the last issue of the magazine. On this page is also the "pick of the week" where a random person has took a picture of themselves with a celebrity.
Closer also have their own dating expert called Tracey Cox and her job is to see which couples are hot and which ones are not.
In the section style watch we can see celebrities looking their best at fashion shows and on the red carpet. We also see some celebrities looking not so good in hideous fashion disasters.
A quickie with closer is a small piece where each issue a celebrity will be asked a few personal questions.
Closer also features some real life stories concerning us none-celebrity types. The stories are written well and contain some personal pictures to go with the stories.
Closer also has freebies and competitions and I was thrilled to see that in a recent issue closer were offering vouchers of 20% off at Peacocks, Dorothy Perkins and Wallis. For the sake of £1.20 this issue is worth buying just for the discounts.
I must admit I do like the section "shop watch" the fashion experts advise and give us tips on the latest trends worn by celebrities and where we can buy them at a more suitable price range. We can get fashion ideas and tips on what colours will be hot for summer too. There are cool make-up ideas and step to step information on how to create a desired look weather it be for day time or evening or even just to look alike your favourite celebrity.
In the diet section we are introduced to different healthy recipes and are given an idea of different products to buy that will have a healthier impact. We also get a few ideas of a set diet to try based on calories. A celebrity will also tell of her success at losing a bit weight and give a few hints and tips on how they did it.
Fridge raider is where a nutritionist will have a look in a celebrity's fridge and see how healthy they are eating. The celebrity will also be asked about there eating habits.
As with most magazine closer also has a problems page where readers can write in with a concern and the expert can try and give some advice.
There are a few puzzles ranging from pairs, cracking codes, a crossword, sudoku, wordsearch, and arrow words. And finally at the back of the magazine is television section that gives us listings for the next few days
Overall:
This magazine is worth a read but to be honest all the worry of being like a celebrity, looking like a celebrity and eating like one just annoys me a little bit. I have lately preferred to read such magazines as real people where you can get a lot more real life stories and loads more puzzles for nearly half the price.
Summary: An ok read but this isn't going to be a fvourite of mine
