Advantages: Great magazine, good price
Disadvantages: The normal amount of adverts inside
I was lucky enough to get a 12 month subscription to Company magazine from my husband for Christmas (I also got a subscription to Prima - review on Ciao). I say luck because this is one of my favourite magazines for a few reasons, and also lucky that hubby happened to pick it at random!
The first reason I like Company is the price, at £2 an issue it is one of the cheapest monthly glossy magazines. My yearly subscription cost £24 and that is delivered to my door! The only problem is that I don't get any of the free gifts that you see with issues in the newsagents, but apparently this is the norm with delivered subscriptions of magazines!
Secondly is the content of the magazine. It has lots of fashion pages which include the latest designer fashions to the best bargains in Primark and Matalan! It gives good beauty advice including hair and make-up ideas. The articles are well written and cover a wide range of topics from the importance of smear tests to splitting up with your partner and the dangers of walking home alone to debt advice.
There is a contents page at the start so you can get straight to any articles that may have caught your eye from the front page. The magazine also has problem pages, celebrity interviews, horoscopes, phone/postal competitions to win beauty/fashion items/holidays etc, letters from readers and unfortunately the obligatory adverts (no more adverts than in any other similar magazine).
I find the articles just the right length to keep my attention span, usually no more than 3-4 pages with fact boxes and pictures.
I find that the articles tend to be led by the current news and trends and currently give lots of advice on debt as this does seem to be a big problem, particularly with 20 - 30 somethings which is, I would say, the target audience of this publication. I would say that the magazine is aimed at this age group as the fashions are quite young, so not necessarily suitable for an older reader (I am only 26 but feel some of the fashion they show is too young for me to get away with, but I do have 2 small children so no bikini's for me whatever!),but other than the pitch of the magazine feeling quite young there is no reason why an age limit is applicable, I would think that some people in their 30's might find the advice a little boring, but some of the articles are good whatever your age.
As mentioned above I am 26 and find almost everything in this magazine relevant and apart from the horoscope pages I tend to read this cover to cover over the period of a week (if I didn't have children I would probably finish it in a couple of days).
As previously stated this is a monthly magazine, so 12 publications a year, and at the beginning of each month I am eagerly awaiting the postman bringing me my next edition.
Summary: Great magazine for the price - I will be renewing subscription next year!
