Advantages: Advice, Convenient list of competitions
Disadvantages: None
Competitions nowadays are big business, literally hundreds of competitions are happening every week. I am probably like the majority, I do a competition if I feel so inclined and have the time and resources to enter without too much effort. I recently subscribed to Competitors World, a magazine specifically aimed at "compers". I am hoping that I may learn from it's advice and if I get a big win as a result then I will let you know. The magazine currently costs £1.70 per monthly issue. You can order it 12 months in advance and get it delivered to your door at no extra cost, which seems like a good idea if you are serious about entering competitions on a regular basis. It may also be possible to get a good deal by ordering with one of the magazine retailers online. What does it contain? Stories from real life winners, which should help to motivate! Editor's column. Post Bag, selected readers letters, which are published and can earn shopping vouchers. Features, the December issue looks at children's competitions. Also a Problem Page, reader's queries answered by the magazine's resident agony aunt. The magazine's own in house competitions, some of these can be real brain teasers too! Prizes offered for these competitions can vary from cinema tickets and books to shopping vouchers. Insider tips, containing analysis of some winning tie-breakers. Also a tie breaker clinic, where a brave soul submits a failed tie-breaker for scrutiny and advice. Your lucky stars, for those horoscope addicts! Classified ads, small section usually offering competition entry form supply services, for a fee, or books relating to competitions. Lastly, the nitty gritty, listings of current competitions, some of which may close the same month, others which run for several months. Each competition listed will give such information as prize detail
s, the task, the question, advice (answer, yes, the answer!), whether you have to complete a tie-breaker or not, method of entry (postcard, plain paper, special entry form, telephone entry), address and also any restrictions which apply. Lastly and very important the closing date. Whilst the answers to questions are given, the magazine does state that although they research answers to the best of their ability they cannot guarantee they are correct, which is fair enough, I doubt they make many mistakes though, from my own observations. Readers are also advised to check rules on original entry forms. Also listed are prize draws competitions, and instant wins. With prize draws it is the first entry/entries drawn which are the winners, so this is really pure chance but always worth a try especially for the big prizes. As for instant wins, well I would not personally bother with these myself, because it involves sending your details to the specific company when already thousands of people buy their products and being a cynic I just couldn't imagine someone bothering to open a packet of whatever on my behalf! Well, there you are, I find it a convenient way of keeping track of current competitions and prize draws, and I hope it will pay off in terms of wins, now I must wait and see. It is pretty good value, and very useful to those who want to enter competitions on a regular basis.
