Computer and video games is a very well laid out multi format magazine, which has just about everything you would ever want to know about the gaming world today.
The main reason I bought this magazine was the layout of the front cover, which attracted me towards it. So, I took a closer look at it. After looking at it some more, I saw that it had some really good headers on it which really made me want to buy it to read some more about the subject. So, I did.
The magazine was only £2.50, which is pretty cheap compared to all of the other magazines a saw, which were all around £4 and over.
When I got home I sat down and made myself comfortable. I then opened the first page to see the team who put this great magazine together. In all, there were ten people including the editor. This shocked me because I looked at the magazine and thought that at least twenty people had done it, not ten. Their names were Nick, Les, Lee, Pat, Pete, Dean, Steve, Dan, Paul and Matt. I read a little about each of these people to find out what games the liked, and a bit about them selves. I learnt that they all reviewed one game and then swapped ideas to get an average percentage of the mark they was going to give a game when they reviewed it. I thought this was very fair because you get all different kinds of opinions wrapped up into one.
Next there was a contents page, which was spread over two pages. It was laid out very well and I was able to find what I was looking for in a jiffy. In the contents page there are four main sections, which are, up the front, maximum fun, the cover story and reviews. Each of these sections has other sections coning off of it. They all have heaps of news and information for you to read and enjoy.
After the contents page there was a section, which gives you a sneak preview of some of the brand new games that are going to be released in about a year’s time. This is great because it gives you something to look
forward to.
Then there is a scoop section where the team have a small debate on a certain subject. In the issue I bought, the debate was about pirated games. The debate was very interesting and I learnt allot from it because they all explained exactly what pirated games were and what would happen to you if you were caught doing it.
After the debate there was the news section, which I found very interesting to read. It tells you about all of the latest things that are happening in the gamer’s world like when the new games are coming out and most of all, when the newest console is coming out. This got me exited because I thought that I knew before anyone else.
I really enjoyed the next section. It was called ‘In the shops soon’. It reviewed all of the games that are going to be out within the next couple of months. All of the reviews are spot on and are very detailed. I really like this in a magazine.
Then my most favourite section of all time, the cheat’s section! It has cheats for all of the latest games on all of the consoles. This is great because some games are really hard so cheats help you to complete the. Also, once you have completed a game, it gets very boring to play again because you know what’s going to happen. So, all you have to do is use some cheats to spice up the game a little. It works trust me.
After trying out some of the cheats with my old games, I moved on. The next section is where people write in for help with their games. This is good because if the cheat you want is not in the cheat section, all you have to do is send them an e-mail or a letter and they will tell you the answer in this section the following month.
Then comes the master class section where every month the team walk you through a game. It is very detailed and spot on. There are also pictures so you know exactly where you are. I have used this a couple of times and it is one of the best bits in
the entire magazine. All of my friends love this section as well.
Next, it is where people write in and ask various questions to the computer and video games team. The most frequent questions are about the release date of games and so on. The team do extremely well with this section. Give them a clap!
Then there are the reviews. This is where the team tell you what they think about a game or games. They go into great detail and explain all of the good points in a game and all of the bad points in it as well. Things they explain are the graphics and the sound, also the game play. This is a great section and I totally trust their judgement.
We are near the end of the magazine now and so far I think it’s great!
On the very last page it tells you what they are going to review next month. This has made me want to buy the next issue straight away.
Throughout the magazine there are lots of adverts for games and companies, which sell them. They are very good places to buy games from because I have bought some from them and they are very cheap and come very quickly in peak condition. Also there are quite a few hotlines where you can ring to get any cheats you want! But, the downside is that these numbers costs about 50p a minute. So I would not recommend them. I have done this and the phone bill went sky high.
This magazine has changed over the years with new designs and I think that the one it has one is a good one for the year 2001. There is also a new part in it where you can advertise any thing you want to sell (has to be something to do with a console) which is great because some people sell really good thing at a fair prise, cheaper than the shops!
I do buy other magazines but by far this has to be the best and I will never miss an issue from this day on.
If you take my advice and buy it you will not be disappointed, really I mean it.
